Chid 6,584
Ok. . . I've got electric fencing. And that's useful. . . . But i've just bought a piece of land, which I now want to fence off, from the surrounding area, permanently, to allow me to do various things within that fenced off area. You should get some electric fencing - its really useful! lol. To supply and fit stock fencing like you describe would be £10-15 per metre. You would be better off getting the materials and having a fencing weekend with a few mates. I have done a bit of fencing at my mother's place over the years - drop me a PM if you need a hand. At £15 a meter you could get a nice fence done with 6" x 1" boards with 4" posts ...
Lab 10,979
get lab to quote for it, he works his lads hard Easy seen that was today after a Thursday night session....lol Rylock is what your after mate. It's hard to judge a price not seeing it but if you can just source a local lad who has all the gear to do stock fencing. These guys with the post chappers on tractors would do it in a couple of days. I'd get them out for a quote and say you'll buy the materials.
fox digger 1,086
i dont know if this stuff is available over your way but we got this chap out to put up a fence with this x mesh, 200meters with 3 12 foot field gates on it, very very happy with the job they done, a rabbit wouldnt get in or out now and unbelieveable strong, one run of electric wire on top of 4foot mesh, last for donkeys years. comes in a nice bit cheaper than post and rail and 10 times better imo. http://www.donedeal.ie/buildingmaterials-for-sale/xfence-multi-purpose-fencing/3422792
bird 9,969
When i kept a few pigs i just put in posts and corrigated iron paneled the gaps and they never got out,i put a line of barbed wire along the top but that's all i did.You could get a elecy fence and that would be your easest bet with keeping them in,and the amount of outside piggiers around this way shows they work mate . true with the elecy fences, not far from me farmer had only pigs ,and fair few .All were kept in with elecy fences, maybe jai that's the way to go, and might work out cheaper than load of b/w fence .And watch out for foxes they will take small piglets

STRANGER 948
Why not just ask some local farmer to come with a tractor and help you for the day? Any farms I worked on (mostly) did their own fencing work.
socks 32,253
Done loads of stock fencing ... Its piss easy jai 3 inch rough cut round posts and either try a farmer for a favour with a post rammer fitted on his tractor or hire a hand held post rammer in ... I put in a few hundered posts with a hand held into chalk and flint ground and they whent in easily ... Keep the post distance to 2 meters for pigs to make it strong enough .......

Lab 10,979
Aye it's easy.....easy to make a f***ing pigs ear of it....lol If you go down the rylock route it's not easy to get it right and looking neat. Make sure you put your straining posts in real solid as they are the bread and butter of how tight your fence will go.
