nuts off ?

Recommended Posts

alright all ,what are everyones thoughts on whether to neuter terriers or not(bitches and dogs)had a discussion with my mate and we did not really come to any conclusion to be honest .my bitch was spayed but that was only because it had to be done but ordinarily i would have left her.she works well and i am due to get a patt pup (dog)which will not be getting done .what difference does /can it make and does anyone have any opinions with something to back them up(ie facts )not just i dont want his nuts off because i wouldnt like it done to myself.there are scientific facts to prove it is better for the animal to be neutered but is there anything against it.as i said earlier none of my dogs are done but my bitch is .i would say its taken a bit of fire out of her but that may have been her illness i dont know.any opinions welcomed :signthankspin:

The scientific facts that prove its better for the dog, would be coming from vets, who are making money doing the ops.Its like a dentist saying that having your teeth looked after is a waste of time,if they did they wouldn't make any money.

There are benefits to having males and females neutered in certain circumstances, for example:

A bitch having serious phantom pregnancies, getting milk, becoming moody, uninterested and depressed. A bitch that gets a Pyometra or mammary tumours consistent with phantoms, will not get any of those if she is spayed, BUT, if she is ok with her seasons, and you have no problem with it, I cant see any reason to spay? I certainly would if phantoms etc.. made her unwell, but not otherwise.

Males, cant see any real health benefits at all. Will stop bonking, but so will a clip round the ear!! Testicular tumours are much much rarer than Vets like to make out, twice they told me my dog had an enlarged prostate due to a tumour and twice they were wrong! Vets these days have neutering drummed into them, we have had 3 Vet students this year at work and they all said the same, spay and neuter is pushed and pushed!

Dawn.

I have a male who is sort of oversexed and even harasses females which are not in heat. He hunts well but since he is taken on by several dogs while he was tracking, he sometimes fights too. Would neutering stop his bad habits and would he still hunt well after that?

A few years ago, I researched this whole question to the hilt. It was a very scary experience, to be quite perfectly honest with ye. 99% of the referances on Google led back to the Arsepca / HSUS (US eqivelent) / PETA.

But the terms they couched it all in were just stupendously frightening! Honest to god, it actually made no bones about the " fact " that ye Dog would ~ if he could ~ Thank you for having his balls ripped out. " It's what He'd Choose " they tell us! :icon_eek: Ye think I'm making this up? Get ye arse off to Google and start digging! " If you truly love and care for your pets? Do the right thing by them. Spey and neuter " they say! F F S!!!!!

One thing that sticks in my mind to this day about it all; Aside from the usual rubbish about how it can prevent the almost inevitable testicular cancer (Back to That in a sec!) it - wait for it: 'Saves your Dog the constant agonies of frustration as he scents seasoning bitches, all around him, in the air. " What?!? Hang about; If every c*** else has swallowed this shit and had theor bitches cut up, then how the hell is he going to smell Anything on the bloody air?! Butchered bitched can't bleed!

Anyway, cancer? As I grew up, absolutely crowded around with Dogs, I knew of ONE Dog who got cancer. My mums little black Scottie. Dry 'Feed' didn't exist in those days and Dogs didn't get cancer. He did though - the exception to prove the general rule. In His F*cking EAR! Died with his balls on.

Nowadays? As has been pointed out above; Vet's are crazy for it. But then, they sell the greasy sacks from the front counter of what they sell out the back bloody door anyway; Their mistakes and peoples cast offs. There's ye dramatic and paralell rise in canine cancers

Finally; Will castration cure a Dogs 'bad habits' or aggression? Will it hell! Study the matter of the testosterone surges a Dog has in it's life. By the time a Dog's old enough to start exhibiting Dog Aggression (or any other kind, come to that) ripping his balls out won't make a lick of differance - except he's got two things less to lick). Some of the most aggressive Dogs on the earth have been castrated. And they're Still some of the most aggressive Dogs on the planet.

Incidentally; The majority of non vets / animal rights nuts who clamour for and practice mutilation of healthy Dogs and Bitches are, in my personal experience, females. They'll usually scream that it's a stupid, macho thing, not wanting ye Dogs butchered, whilst rushing everything they can get their hands on straight to the vets. Interestingly, I've found; Discreetly scratch the surface of these people and ye'll often as not find they've been, shall we say, " Unlucky in love " :whistling: Try it!

Myself? Why would I simply never contemplate having bits hacked out of any healthy Dog? Perfectly simple: I get a Dog because I Want a Dog. Not a Dog who doesn't do this, or doesn't do that. If I wanted a Dog that didn't bark and upset the neighbours? I'd get a f*cking rabbit. If I wanted a Dog that didn't shed hair or dig holes? I'd be better off with a Goldfish, surely? Bottom line is; I like Dogs. All of them. As they are. As nature makes them. I can't stand cats. Should I get a cat; Then have its claws ripped out. Eyes removed. Voice changed. Descented. Arse hole sewn over. Tail sorted. Teeth pulled ....? Or do ye think I should just stick with my Dogs.

See where I'm coming from? ;)

good post ditch as usual .my personal opinion is that i would nt have my dogs 'done' unless for medical resons (as in my bitch)but think all the charities are actually aimed at irresponible dog owners who leave their pets to roam about the local area getting pregnant then leading to unwanted pups which in turn end up at the local strat kennels on death row or in the local rescue centre .it is not however they dress it up aimed at responsible working dog owners who selectively breed to bring the best possible pups on to further a particular line and who sell to other working people.take a trip to your local stray kennels or rescue centre and tell me how many working dogs do you actually see wether it be labs/spaniels/or proper terriers!!you wont find many believe me

It shouldnt alter his hunting ability at all, I doubt it would stop the fighting unless its due to him being oversexed and his frustration starts the arguing. It would stop him bonking everything.

If you are considering this, I would reccommend you ask your Vet about a Tardak injection. Its a chemical castration and will last for 4-6 weeks, after which the dog will return to normal. You can see if you like the effects neutering will have, and go for the permanent option if you choose, but if you do not like the effects your dog will be back to how he was.
