lemoncakes 0
hello what is the going rate for a well bred cocker pup? kc registered but not docked Quote Link to post
pegleg33 134
Wouldn't buy a spaniel with a tail!, I think it's cruel to leave a tail on a working dog so personally I'd say a docked dog without papers would be worth more. 3 Quote Link to post
RubyTex 1,957
Well the going rate seems to be around 600 quid but personally I wouldn't buy one without a docked tail... 1 Quote Link to post
pegleg33 134
What do you call well bred? Putting a run of the mill bitch to a FTCH isn't well bred IMO, if however the bitch herself is from the right lines and is proven then I'd say you should of got them docked. Quote Link to post

philstory 83
I don't know anyone who has 'well bred cockers' that wouldn't of had there tails docked. Quote Link to post
adbirdy 14
I don't know anyone who has 'well bred cockers' that wouldn't of had there tails docked. unless they were bred where docking is outlawed? Have to agree though, I feel its cruel to expect a dog to work hard in brambles etc and injure itself daily! Ade 1 Quote Link to post
Bradford Lad 74
Not sure I agree with the above, my sprocker has a full tail and smashes all cover and in three years hasn't hurt it yet!! Whilst I prefer docked dogs I didn't have a choice with him! Quote Link to post

I think you have been Lucky with your dogs tail, my brother had to take his springer at 14months to the vet who had to dock his tail because he was always cutting it and was forever covered in blood. I have a Springerdor and i have had his tail docked by the vet as he said all types of Spaniels should be done under the docking of working dog regulations.. 1 Quote Link to post

adbirdy 14
Have to agree my Mrs has a cocker with a docked tail but it was left slightly long (not a very good job by the vet) and even that gets split on the end, so I would have thought a dog with a full tail would have been pouring blood in thick cover! hily 379
this lass asked about tail docking on this forum and was advised to get them done if she intended to sell as working dogs shame she did't get them done this doesn't reflect on the quality of the pups but it will be harder for her to sell as workers though she will sell them probably as pets and it looks like the going price is £500 to £600 anyway good luck Quote Link to post
