Sweeney 316
Deer are a risk to dogs full stop....especially the regular taking of fallow. Dogs will be dragged threw wire fences ect I dont bother with them much these days as much as i use to do, they can really destroy a good dog, you could get lucky and take a good few with not much of a problem, but the day will come when your dog or dogs will come unstuck, not pleasant. Just my opinion and experience on the matter. I know fallow, reds and even muntjak can cause problems for a dog, but I heard Roe are more of a low risk ?? Quote Link to post

Fair play, well I think that's the only deer that I would run, if your dog takes one of those I think that's good enough in my eyes. 1 Quote Link to post
paulus 26
the muntjac is the king of the cover, hunting them with dogs will take its toll if done regular, its just an accident waiting to happen but i would think it would be very exciting stuff to watch, they can also run when pushed to break cover, you could get a liking for it easy enough, these days deer can be a pain in the arse as their numbers have swelled just look what happened with Fenton Quote Link to post

Can be tough customers though....... Quote Link to post
courseadog 231
I would value a good deer dog the same as a good coursing the dog has still got to match the deer for speed endurance and skill but its also got to match it with physical presence and keep it down till you arrive Then there's 6 different types that each bring something else to the table The dogs life if he's on deer all the time will be hard and runs the risk of death every run 1 Quote Link to post
