lapin2008 1,587
Short term, electric fences and pigs to clear it all then if it was me and I had the time have a go with some bees/hives. I have a similar sounding plot out the back and would love to have a go at making some honey but i know I will not have time to do it justice. Its not something I know much about but my grandad has done it for years and it looks pretty interesting. Other than that what haymin said seems pretty cool

Ideation 8,216
Raw i've got 1500 acres of protected ground next door for anyone who wants to send me any hares. . . . . They all got killed a long time ago, but we have good land for it and a new 'friendly' policy
R.A.W 1,987
If the pigs are on there long enough it'll just be wind blown seeds germinating. Where I keep my lot it's like plough so a complete blank canvas . You may want a harrow or rake to even the surface.
forest of dean redneck 11,679
Sort fence out, goats first as I would thought they would convert weeds to meat quicker than pigs ,then maybe try pigs substituting diet with feed to fatten, then you would have to sow grass as weeds grow quicker than grass so you would just have a weed infested mud pan. Poultry as pure breeds is good earner if you can keep them safe.

The first 18 months will be difficult, but after that you'll have cornered the market in performance lurchers.............

Ideation 8,216
Bees are interesting - we've got some hives on the estate that some folk come and do stuff with and it looks fascinating. I've also got an aussie mate who set up and urban apiarist busies, he installs hives on city buildings in australia and make a good living from urban bee farming lol. Tomo - one of my bosses sons is trying to get into the glamping game and has got some cool pageantry tents, and is going for some kind of medieval theme. I've thought of it, but would rather not have other folk there for the time being and cant be arsed with the whole business route. If I was going to go down the business route, i'd probably go along the lines of kids bushcraft summer camps, as the land borders my place of work, which is a beautiful piece of woodland and estate, with lakes etc, and i'm qualified to work with kids, do out door ed and also counsel them etc. . . . so think there is probably some milage in that kind of thing - middle class kids spending a few nights under canvas, eco camping and doing activities and getting proper bushcraft teaching etc. Raw - I've had some seed blow in from the fields above because the paddocks I built and used last year have seeded a bit, it's patchy though and the ground is f****d, looks like a tanks been through it. . . . so if it was a larger scale i'd need to plough it I think. . . . I can probably blah a chain harrow or even a small plough FOD - Can you really make money from selling pure breed poultry? Is there a market? NL _ I've had a flick through in the past, i'll dig up a copy. Tarquin - Aye, a wee log cabin with a burner would be nice. Looks like it'll be a yurt or teepee for a while though. . . . or just a shed
