some advice

Recommended Posts

hi folks,

looking for some advice so i am. i went out with my albino hob last monday so i did, (and very follishly) without my locater collar. it was his first day out so i took him into a few dry burrows just to get him going, i did have a bell around his neck so i could hear him going about. well anyways pon the last burrow of the evening he went in and didnt come out. three hours i spent waiting but he bever showed so i went home quickly, got a kidney friom the fridge and left it in his box by the burrow and kept coming back that night looking but still there was no sign. i came back the next day with a friends ferret and locater and put him in but he still never showed. i have since put another two ferrets down there on saturday but i think the poor little beast is gone, but i'l keep going back to look not givin up hope. im raging over it , as he was a real pet and it kills me to think he out in the wild on his own. i cant fathom what may have happened him. he was very tame, very well handled and would always come to hand when called.

on friday i went and purchased another ferret (as i have only a 15 week old kit at home). i got him from a guy who was breeding them, he said she was a year old, had a little last year, but she is a fat little thing and i think she may be older. i looked at her teeth and there is a little bit of enamel on the back ones but the front look okay. i entered in to a burrow on saturday and first of all she was very uncomfortable with the collar and not too eager or in any rush to go down the burrows. will this take some time to fix?

second my other little kit is 15 weekd old, and she's a wicked little thing. i am constantly handling her and she is coming around, but when is the best time to start her working?

She will get used to the collar and will soon be running down the buries...Patience Grasshopper..

My ferrets tremble when they are getting ready for a hunting session, bit like the dog getting excited when she knows she's going out!

Get the young jill kit properly hand tame before you work her, you don't want to be sticking your hand down a dark hole with a snappy ferret waiting in the dark..

i know, i may excercise some patience i suppose. the real keller is being so patient with the first hob i had. i had him so tame that he would sit up on my shoulder as i walked around, and i wont even tell you about the piggy backs he used to get around on the back of my rottweiller, you wouldnt even beleive me! and to lose him on his first outing. very cruel thing to happen me

Not all ferrets work to a decent standard mate , you may have a slow starter or one that doesnt want to do a bit . Put the collar on her at home as well allways helps . And a rabbit trap can be something to have at hand if you lose one , Least then you can put the trap down and keep checking it .

thanks folks. hopefully it will turn up. i'l keep working on my kit and put my new jill on her new diet of meat instaed of cat food like she was eating with her previous owner. i cant wait to see her coat come along. any tips for cleaning them, i usually just give them a quick run under a tap, probobly not the best thing but they dont seem to mind too much.
