Ideation 8,216
I know very little about rifles, they have never really interested me, being a dog man. However, i'm needing to get a .22 and probably a .243 for work. So I was after some advice on a decent, yet reasonably priced choice of the above. Guns would need to be robust and durable, i'm hard on gear I'm not after anything all singing, all dancing, just a tool to do a job well. I'll probably buy new. Cheers lads, ID. Quote Link to post
foresterj 1,096
.22 BRNO, .243 HOWA for workhorses imo. 2 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
+1 on the Brno. I have a 1977 mod 2 .22LR and its great. The newer ones are the CZ452's I have one of these in hmr and still just as good preety much the same rifle just newer. I'm also looking at the Howa 1500 in .243 reveiws are great for this rifle Quote Link to post
Bunny Boiler 177
CZ 452/BRNO Mod2E for .22 (same rifles). They shoot really well and you can get them quite cheap. Can also look at the Ruger 10/22 for semi autos in synthetic/stainless. Good robust rifle. Quote Link to post
TheRealChuckNorris 42
CZ/Brno will alway feature highly for the .22lr I've got a Ruger 10/22 and they're great semi autos and customisable probably more than any other rifle on the planet. Also have a Howa in .243 with a synthetic stock - performs very well and perfectly at home on the farm with no worries about damaging the stock on fences etc. Can pick both guns up very cheaply on the second hand market and similarly both won't break the bank if you buy new. danw 1,748
As above cz for .22 make sure it's the 16inch barrel though anything longer will piss you off in the truck after a while as for the .243 howa or weatherby.Put sensible money into the glass though 2 Quote Link to post
irishnut 297
Cz for both. Why bother confusing things. Cz rf and cf are cracking tools. Go synthetic for both, 16" barrel on 22lr, 22" barrel on 243. Hawke 3-9x50 scope on 22 S&b 8x56 scope on 243 1 Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
CZ452 for the rimfire and Howa 1500 for the .243. Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
+1 for the cz452 .22lr 16 inch synthetic, only thing I would change is my scope to a fixed mag.... Quote Link to post

Born Hunter 17,751
Strange that you didn't put you need .410 as well Call it a sixth sense if you will but I just knew you'd say that! LOL LOL. It's not a 410 I need but guided missiles! I managed 10 pigeon and a squirrel on saturday roost shooting for just over 30 shots so I'm not completely useless! LOL 1 Quote Link to post
