jcm 2,327
My dog is 21tts and he does everything I want and more talking various game and if he had been a bit bigger than I doubt he would struggle with certain tasks like he sometimes does now, but when I say bigger I mean few inches taller and more weight behind him as he bout 34lb I think Quote Link to post
Themoocher 231
IMO it depends what you regular quarry is. If your bunny bashing then whippet would be your ideal dog. If you go much bigger than Bunny's regular. Then I think you need bit height strength and a bit of a something else x in the mix. Hares, saluki Deer, mixture speed legs Teeth, bull Lampin general moocher, collie deerhound beddie xs Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,089
Not one of my dogs is over 21tts suit me mostly mooching and ferreting and the odd bit of lamping its mostly bunnie bashing so perfect size for me Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Dogs an Cocks, some say size really don't matter but when that 'quarry' is right there in front of you and your gonna tackle it, well right then it really does..!!! Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
I can't say I would want a dog under 22" or 23" for rabbiting. A nicely built dog of between 22" and 25" is my preference over a tiddler of 20" or so. 2 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
As we're talking about whippets and not whippets vs lurchers . . . . . some of the comments are a bit off topic. So back to the whippet thing . . . . I hate to be different from everyone. . . . . but in all honestly, I don't think i'd kennel a whippet under 20" . . . . in fact i'd be reluctant to kennel one under 21.5 ". My current whippet is 22" tts and weighs around 18 Kilo, or just under 40lb. He pretty much handles everything I ask of him, and has done some things I would never have thought possible. He does also like to get himself in situations where he is out matched. . . . . he still gives his all, and keeps trying till the end, but just doesn't have the size or weight to anchor what he is trying to stop. Having said that . . . . I don't think many whippets would be up to that particular task. However, in the day to day work of lambing, ferreting and bushing etc, he is just about right . . . . . and I really think if he was shorter. . . . he wouldn't do half as well where and how I hunt. I wouldn't be without the daft bugger. Quote Link to post
