Barry White 79
I have never bred a decent working terrier, truth is I have only ever had 1 bitch that I thought had the working ability and breeding to take a litter from ,2 litters later and a lot of time and energy ended in nothing.Luckly I had a few friends to keep the thing going ,all of my dogs have been gifted. Like the look of the Russell types had a lot of fun with those when I was a chap .best of luck! 1 Quote Link to post

liamdelaney 2,586
Great to read your passionate threads WC they were different times back then,I also had great times with russells of dubious breeding some of which I bred myself,at times I fed a family from fox pelts when I barely had an arse in my trousers. It is lovely to see your children with the dogs as kids and then see them as big strong men still with the daddy digging,it reminded me of my own sons growing up with the dogs and digging with me as kids and still doing it. 6 Quote Link to post

bullx100% 681
Price tagg ruins everything when working dogs ar involved......I no a lad who keeps plumers and the 5 he's got 4 are very good earth dogs and 1 what is medioca and he offerd me one of his pups for 250 with papers .....he's not a mate just someon I no ...one of his bitches is as hard as old nails and will probly lose her life doing what she loves..............10 f down in a deep hole with Charlie 5 inch in front of her.. She aint that hard if charlie is 5in in front of her,lol..... Suppose it's what you class as hard....I class hard as in a hard little dog that works it's quarry and will not let it past and will keep it wher it is and not let it move ...I've seen plenty of dogs what were hard like what u class as hard ie no lips no jaw and after 2 seasons looks f****d .....if that's what you want from your dogs then so be it but I for one would prefer a dog to be hard when needed not hard all the time and constantly be smashed up and in sick bay..... 3 Quote Link to post

Pull in your horns bullx, there was no harm meant, but explain to me how a terrier can be as you say, hard as nails and sit 5in of at the same time? also where did i give my opinion of hard? also i have seen bayer-mixer types take more grief from an awkward fox than say a terrier that will take hold and suffer a limited amount of grief in the process, anyway jmo,not here to start an argument, atb. 3 Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
Neil,Liam and co, thanks for your support, as said earlier its only the internet, its very easy for the younger members to slate us older lads on here, we never had many books to read or mobile phones,internet,u-tube,etc back in the day, what we learnt was through experience doing it and trial and error, it can be difficult raising a family, working to keep a roof over your heads, coping with what life throws at you and yet still remain committed to working and breeding your dogs so I take my hat off to anyone of our era and older that have come through it and are still hunting, thanks for the many pm's and ponte especially as I know I side tracked it for a while and your pm helped but I always reserve the right to defend myself from idiots, many forget that I owned many types of terrier but only ever focus on my Plummers, anyway lets get the thread back on track, C.S put some pics up of the crosses and some old Plummers, WM 8 Quote Link to post

(early eighties. and to me is what it was all about. i let most foxes run. and admire the terriers that bolt them. but most of all i enjoy being out in the country. yis. CS. . 21 Quote Link to post
