Ponte, I have to agree with every word on your post and you sound like a lad I could of had a good day out with, we certainly share the same working values, the wrong people are in charge of the clubs and each are a closed shop, I offered to help run a working party to encourage breeding of known fox dogs and lines in order to keep the full working ability going in the breed, this was raised through Scott at the AGM and was not even discussed due to lack of interest from a MIDDLE CLASS MEMBERSHIP, I understand not everyone wants to work fox but the ability to do so should still be retained within the breed or it is soon lost, each generation bred for show and K C membership is another dilution of their working ability, poor dogs bred to poor dogs will only breed even poorer dogs. I joined the WPTF as I thought there would be like minded driven lads that would only put the working side first but the same people who are in the clubs and their little "clicks" were all on there influencing and sniping every thread or post, creating a stale environment of no proper working posts or any encouragement to do so, so the politics run far too deep across the full spectrum of clubs, I have bred these little dogs since 1979 and I still believe there are enough lads that own and work them to make a difference if we were all able to work towards the same thing, WM

I dont own a plummer but have followed afew topics over the years and the vandal dogs name keeps popping up as highly regarded

Was she/he plummers dog ?

Steve, "VANDAL" influenced the working ability of many plummers and most known earthdogs can trace him in their pedigree's, unfortunately he was a very aggressive little dog that could only work alone most of the time, I owned a "double" bred dog "DANNY" that was a lunatic with other dogs once we caught or he was dug to, I have deliberately bred away from this line (REMLAP) because of the aggressive temperament he passed on along with his working ability. VANDAL was worked and owned by Bill Mossman who due to work commitments gave him and a few bitches to Derek Palmer, who then formed the "Remlap" line of Plummers breeding a lot of terriers from them thus influencing the breed heavily, most lads have been out with a dog aggressive Plummer and most will trace it back to Vandal also, a bit of a poison chalice in some ways, hope this helps, WM

We're the earth dogs single workers or did they have to be doubled up?

6 pages of this breeds working abilities and you ask if the dogs were doubled up? I doubt they'd be posting about the dogs if they couldn't do the job do you?

Your'e Misinformed there WM. Vandal would work in a pack with no problems unless challenged. He was too busy during hunts to fight, a dog that was everywhere at once out-hunting and out- killing most he hunted with. If pushed he would certainly finish a fight but did not seek one. When inbreeding heavily to the line, then I believe the aggressiveness started. The old boy himself was a good natured dog who lived to work.

I also think the temperament needs channelling and and kept busy. There are direct descendants still out there who are working like trojans and no problem to live with.

Hello Bill, my quick description may not have done "VANDAL" justice however I been out with a lot of this line and Danny was no different, a great little dog until crossed, everything caught was his and if you put a gamebag with anything in it down he would guard it with his life, in many ways a lot are like a ticking timebomb that can be done without when working a pack, its in a dogs natural make up to challenge to be the "alpha" dog so at some point there would be carnage, every dog that ever came out with me and Danny had a bite mark or scar for their trouble and even some people for that matter, his pups worked all quarry but I would not breed from them because of temperament issues, WM
