Take a good look at themselfs firstly.

You said it yourself. . . . . .   "you know lads that go through loads of dogs"   Now isn't it funny that the type of lads that often seem to get 'jackers'. . . . . . seem to get loads of them?

dogs which simply cant or wont work in any way are few and far between. i expect my dogs to learn a lot of different skills (ferretting, hunting up, bit of lamping, gun work, trailing shot deer etc) a

Dogs over 24" struggle to catch rabbits? My 25" dog is by far the best rabbiter out of my 3 so I can't agree with that.

And all 3 of mine are as keen to run a rabbit as they were on day 1 and theyve all seen plenty of all sorts. Maybe when they get to their 4th or 5th seasons they'll surprise me and start f****n about but I really can't see it....

Don't want to sound like I'm jumping on the band wagon gsdxg (as if your happy with your dog that's all that matters) but you sound like your trying to make excuses up for the fact you run half hearted dogs? There are plenty of times I've seen people say that dog won't even get to the quarry let alone kill, it then a minute later the dogs back in sight all over the quarry and then takes it out in style, there the runs we all remember and make you think that's a good dog I want one like that. not something you say get on lass and it runs 10 yards stops and runs back to you lol you say its because the dogs clever? Some of the best coursing dogs that there has been are as clever as you will get, have the ability to box a hare right back into a field before going through the gears again to make the kill.. That's clever, said dog could be slipped 200+ yards and it will still put 110% In. a dog that refuses to run when 100% fit and injury free is a jacker

I dont think you can compare our domestic dogs to wild wolves. They way we have bread our dogs over the years is to have a much higher prey drive than wild animals.

true , and the type of dog that as been bred for to be different is a running dog type lurcher, and most or should kill with speed. A lot of wild animals kill on stealth ,ambush , and in the wolf or yote have great stamina to run down there quarry. But we the lurcher owner want a dog to kill quite quick , even coursing dog might take 2 mins or more to catch and kill a hare , no way would a wolf or yote waste energy like that for a kill, I watched wolves killing hares on youtube they will just wait there chance with ambush not 3 min course lol. My 1x gsd x grey Buck a big young dog, but even him catches quick I think for a big dog, ok its not like a 50lb lurcher type running, but he deff fast for his size. And more important to me he try's to kill as quick as he can, there a old saying speed kills and I think it 100% right , you can have the cleverest or most stamina in a dog , but if it cant catch its quarry 1st what good is it. ??

Dogs act differently on different game, deer especially bring an effect. In the old days I would know if there were deer in the field by the dog’s attitude and had a couple of dogs that would ignore rabbits if they had a whiff of deer in the air. Would run em up till that point then look through them looking for the deer. Settled when taken to different ground but it could be embarrassing when your out with someone and enter a field, feel that extra pressure in the collar etc but the deer have gone and the dog doesn’t seem to interested in the rabbits that remain.

i would say there would be references to types ,that some prefer than others ,but one would be foolish to think that there not be other xs that dont act in a similiar fashion than the sheperd types , seen the terrier types be of similiar disposition ,work and more work brings out the deep inheritent traits of types . i believe that some animals when tasted the preban gear ,will show little interest in much else i only hope my alli xs dont .she full tilt at all at the moment .alli xs were bred for specifics much in the same ways has bull xs .taking numbers of there chosen quarry or game .

getting back on track those that jack call it what yas like dont make the grade etc, should be culled simple ,its different if they dont suit or not up to ones standard ,then a working home where one does not expect so much can be found ,but they are getting harder these days .atb bunnyus.
