Slow paced trotting is the so important in my opinion.

Important for increasing stamina, building up the heart and lungs as well as toughening up the tendons and ligaments and their feet.

A dog that has done the road work is in my opinion "properly fit" and it really shows on the long days or nights hunting when you are asking the most from the dog.

I never really bothered with road work before until last year and I have to say that the difference is amazing.

To be honest, its got to be a combination of trotting and the fast sprint work but that's just how i do it,

Each to their own

Sprinters train by jogging to.

That was the point I was making.

Swimmers run and row.

Bovers Jump rope.

Mountain climbers walk on flat ground.

It's all part of a programme. Not just "runners should run and only run".

we are talking about dogs not humans you cant compere them you can take the piss just shows how much you know about dogs and training :D:D :D

Any pics of your fit and well muscled dogs just out of interest?

Be good to see a dog that's in shape from galloping only. See how it's muscle differs if at all...

Just keep them busy, 3 walks a day with mine - I say walks but with a Lurcher every walks hunting or finding something to hunt :-) tweak it up abit come the end of summer/autumn with some short sessions lamping. The key is variation, running, trotting, walking, swimming whatever just get em out and about and feed them well.

I can't see how you can be fat and unfit with a Lurcher about unless you run them behind a car or put them on a walker lol
