Yes Neil if i remember correctly the hare had took refuge to ground. Your 100% correct on the border. My mate in cumbria was good friends with the huntsman and he used to let my mates border run with the beagles on the outings. It would be silly to compare her to a beagle but she had some stamina for a little terrier she would hunt all day long and try her best to keep up.

Some would say it's a lie but having seen Hares go to ground a few times myself I know it can happen.

In fact, when it comes to Hares, I'd believe they can do anything.

Over the last 35 years ive seen a few hares go to ground. Out with this pack one went to ground at a small quarry type place and the lead beagle lost its footing at speed and fell some height to its death.

i think they were the lemon field foot beagles  back in the 1980s from patrickswell  co limerick.
