Miners Strike And Me Itv Now

Recommended Posts

One thing I have noticed with this thread, all the people who have said that people should get up off their arse and stop blaming, and do something for themselves all come from the bigger cities. They do not have a clue about living outside of a semi metropolis. Where there was/is limited work available once the industry that built that community was destroyed for greed of the elite.

Before anyone states that I am bleating again, I have not claimed dole since before the Mc Gregor plan 1978. I have always worked and I expect to work till the day I take my last breath. I ask nothing of anyone, but that does not make me blind to what I have seen happen around me.

There's a lot of bile for Thatcher but lets have it right, the girl (yes GIRL) came from nothing, her parents grafted in their OWN business, she got herself an education and worked hard enough to get

Or maybe it means that you can't have a load of KGB infiltrated communists taking their perks and wages from the real economy, from business & taxpayers that create their own money whilst holding

Fcuk there is some shit being talked on this thread. Yes Thatcher done good for herself from middle class beginings, yes she was an astute politician. And yes she fcuked the country up by setting neig

Max, I have said it before and I will say it again.......who is this mythical "working man"

I am, you are, GTE is.....even Foney Blair is

The difference is, the big money earners know the score.....spread a nice few quid around but keep most for yourself because you did the deal to make it happen.

Unions and nationalised industry is just take, take, take and always wanting more with no give back.

Orwell hit the nail on the head when it comes to unions and socialists " everyone is equal, but some are more equal than other"

The union simply has to be broken, they sacrificed their members at the alter of their own ego ! End of story.

She ran rough shot over the working classes. Terrible her lack of compassion towards the people of this nation.

This great stance she was famous for, it's just a pity she didn't show the same patriotism towards British people.

Yes things needed a shake up, but was this really the way to go about it.

Having said that, IMO it was way past the unions and government having a set to.

You touched on it earlier mate, with the KGB.

In fact it was the Stasi who had infiltrated the strike. There a book on my shelf. Anthony glees Stasi files operations against Britain.

Seriously it is some good if not frightening reading. IMO the Cold War came to the villages and towns of the uk during the 80s. Could be argued it wouldn't have been such threat if thatcher wasn't such a head strong callous person. But it happened and we came through it, granted with a lot if resentment and bad blood, but the alternative could have been far worse.

well said max  once she destroyed the unions with her propaganda ( much the same as the propaganda about coursers etc being spread by the police and bbc etc today) the working class were f****d .if the nation had come out at the time with the miners and brought her government down its a sure thing this country wouldnt be the shit hole it is today .

Wow.... You REALLY believe that if the unions had brought down the government we would be better off now? A country under complete influence of Union Rule. Why do you think Ed Millipede is trying to distance the Labour Party from them?

I remember all the strikes in the 70's early 80's the country was on its knees, people talk about greed but what about the greed of the unions, they were holding the country to ransom while the rest of the world were passing us by.

Oh by the way how's Scargill getting on with suing the Miners Union he so dearly fought for so he can have his free £34K per ann 2nd home in London, isnt this the same money paid in by the miners he claimed to represent 30 years ago?

give me an example of the unions ripping any one of or holding any one or the country to ransom i hear a few on here trumping that one out .well lets have some examples not just assumptions all im asking for is proof and bone fide examples as for the country on its knees there was work every where. our economy was the strongest it had ever been .production and exports were thriving we had a thriving coal industry and the steel industry was the best in the world .i to remember the miners strikes and the picket lines with soldiers dressed as filth hitting old men and women over the heads with batons outside roseheyworth and cwmtillery trying to protect theyre jobs and future for theyre families .whilst that bitch was having her barnet permed twice and three times a week at hundred quid a throw at the tax payers expense and securing arms deals abroad ( peddling death in third world countries for her ponce son ) .what about her taking every thing of us joe public once she broke the unions ? by taking it of us i mean privatising the energy companies .we owned them before thatcher do you remember ? we now have huge price hikes are forced to pay advanced line charges advanced vat which is also rising every year (talk about blackmail haha) how many of these energy companies are now owned by centrica ? did you know centrica is a french company ? a french company also own the severn bridge .all these billions in revenue is being taken by a foreign company then we have the privatisation on the waterboard .again massive massive profits and continued price hikes .privatisation of the railways and british telecom .a huge drop in standards with massive price increases much much higher than inflation .huge profits and bonuses to the board and increased hardship to the working man on top of that she then forced the poll tax onto us any one who refused to pay she had jailed .do you remember ? talk about blackmail and holding us to ransom . we also had thriving ship yards and harbours .we own none now these are all owned by foreigners .none of this would have happened if the unions had still been in place .now we have a country thats a shit hole the foreigner is taking over and getting priority over the local for any jobs or council house .most vacancies now are through an agency .nearly all these are foreign owned and controlled so whos getting priority ? now do you think for one minute with a strong union in place any of this would happen because i know it wouldnt .this is only a brief of what that bitch brought about .her actions lead to this change in our country .but please if you or any one could post some proof and examples of how the unions blackmailed this country and some one else mentioned they were KGB ffs id would like to see proof of these claims lol

Unions as a mediator between bosses and workers where much needed. The problems arose when the labour party needed the unions to get into power, and they became a political animal

The facts are the pits were being subsidised to a limit that was not sustainable to any government that was worth it's salt. That's it in a nutshell. The Unions had the country by the short and curlys that had to change.

I always note the Thatcher bashes never bring up the fact that Labours Prime minister Harold Wilson closed more coal mines under his government then Thathcer did in hers :hmm: strange that..where was Scargill then?

I just really feel sorry for the people that were caught in the middle like the miners themselves, led by an egotistical idiot into a fight they were unable to win.

Wilf, in my first post on this thread I stated that "Fcuk there is some shit being talked on this thread" and I see it has not changed, you are talking about one person, we are talking about whole communities that were built on the work in the area. Only to be destroyed by the greed of the few.

TBH the miners strike never affected me as such, but it does not mean that because it did not affect me that I do not care what happened to the communities. Perhaps that is where we differ, I have a social conscience and an empathy for my fellow workers where as you seem to be a right Thatcherite. 'Fcuk you Jack I'm allright.'

Alright Brookie How's Things Mate , I Can't Comment On The Miners Strike As It Never Affected Me So Only Have An Outside Opinion , Very True About Privitisation Ect , You Ask About Unions Holding People/Places To Ransom Well I Can Give An Example I Live On An Island And Every Yr We Have A Massive Bike Meeting Where Tens Off Thousands Off People Descend On For A Fortnight , Well In The 70s The Unions Representing The Seamen Had A Problem And Basically Threatened To Strike This Particular Fortnight Literally Holding My Island To Ransom Knowing It Would Financially Affect The Place . . Knowing Any Other Time Wouldn't Off Been As Bad So That Too Me Was Holding The People Off My Island Too Ransom & They The Seamen Got What They Where After . . An Ex Deputy Prime Minister Was Involved . . I Have Nothing Against Unions As I Personally Know Nothing About How They Work But I Know This Happened !!

Unless you lived thru the Strike and in the Mineing Communities she Devestated.

Unless you seen first hand what went on

Unless you see every day the wastelands she created.

Then your not qualified to make assumptions imo

No disrespect but thats the way it is.

Is that not the same as saying "unless you were part of the Cabinet at the time, you are not qualified to comment on Thatchers decisions"?............ probably not eh? LOL

That 7 year old sock maker on 10p a day, that's outrageous......................... If I can get cheaper socks pay him 5p a day  These days and probably all the days gone by as well, you have to look after yourself. I have had need of the union before and they are useless management bed fellows. It pays to educate yourself in the various things that you need such as employment law etc. At work recently when redundancy reared its ugly head, you really got to see what people are about, its all self protectionism. There are not many people who would put themselves in a dubious situation for the sake of others and those that do don't last long, sad really.

I have no idea what the miners went through as I have always lived down south and have had no dealings with the mines but was around at the time and remember it. Redundancy and the effect it has is not lost me though, my dad was laid off in the early nineties due to the decline of the defence industry along with thousands of others, on statutory minimum redundancy. I remember being on a picket line as a very young child in the 70's with my dad and he was a supervisor but always tried to look after and stick up for his blokes. Were did that get him, not very far.

Personally if I need assistance in life, its my mum and dad who I trust, if I need assistance at work, I trust no f***er apart from myself. I have seen to many back stabbing, forked tongue low lives in management and in the union, I am fully aware that at work, when the sh*t hits the fan, I am well and truly on my own
