I have a small river close to my house which has a few in. Ive just emailed the environment agency requesting the application form.

Anyone got any info on catching crayfish? What bait do you use? How long do you leave the trap in the water?

Some trout ponds we fish are full of them. One time we put a couple of trout tails in bass bags and left them while we fished. Pulled them up every hour or so, ended up with 80 between two of us. Purged, boiled and served up with chilli mayo. Lovely!

We sometimes fish a nice stretch of the Ouse . We tie a small bit of meat onto a length of line and pull a good few out - they really hang on !

Bit sly, I know, but it reduces the population a tiny bit. (The fat off a ham sandwich works a treat....... )

Does any one know if the Cray fish are in Cornwall as me and my son are just getting into fishing thanks shane

catching crays is not classed as fishing, its trapping, crayfish can get everywhere, they walk across land to find mates, so its down to you to do some leg work, piece of string and bit of bacon, then simply do test dunks on patches of water near to where you live, streams/rivers/ponds/lakes etc, if you pull up a red signal crayfish, you have found your spot, then simply apply to the environment agency for some tags, you can have upto 10, so ask for 10, give them the location, if they give you tags, it means that no native crayfish are in the area, if they refuse, its because of that

How do you go about getting permission to fish a river for example? Do you you need permission from the council/landowner ect?
