Ferrets Skin Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi my ferret is starting to get sores and scabs Mainly on his stuff and a little on his back he was in with another ferret as they grew up together but started to fight so iv split them up at first I thought they where bite marks but now i have split them up they don't seem to to be getting better ! Another theory was that they had fleas and was from scratching but they have flea treatment so I don't think it can be that.. has anyone had any similar experiences and know what the crack is before I pop down the vets ????

You will need front line spray for fleas. You only can get it from the vets. You will also need to have them both castrated if you want to keep them together. Two hobs in breeding season will no doubt try to fight or shag each other.

Whilst you can only get frontline from the vets; you can get a Bob Martin flea treatment in supermarkets which is cheaper and identical (contains 50ug Fipronil) there is however a cheaper flea 'repellant' sold by bob Martin that is about as much use a chocolate teapot, so read the back...

Try Ivermectin; in case it's mange... (Can't see pics)

iv been using ANTI PARASITE SPOT ON RABBIT GUINEA PIG FERRETS IVERMECTIN WORMER LICE FLEAS is that any good

That's fine (ivermectin is the active ingredient) ignore the instructions; and treat 1x week for 3 weeks to beat any mite infestation. Then revert to 1x month for a preventative measure. I do 1x Fipronil every payday and 1x ivermectin 2 weeks later every month.

Sound like bite marks. How long have they been split, they will take a little time to heal. Im not sure your supposed to apply a spot on broken skin either.. Surely if it was parasitic both ferrets would show signs?

good point; and no you're not. Use a natural anti-bac like tea tree oil?

Got any pictures? Still sounds like they`ve been trying it on with each other. If its not getting any worse, and your not seeing bugs all over them, give it a little while longer, see how he heals.

Some people reckon tea tree oil is to toxic to ferrets and should definitely not be used undiluted. If it looks sore or dirty you could wash it with warm salt water or diluted hibiscrub?
