3175darren 1,100
I am just setting up to reload for my 22 hornet,I am no stranger to loading, and I have loaded for plenty of different calibers, however while searching around for bullet heads and stuff I came across an advert for a lee loader in Henry krank's its all contained in one box and it allows you to completely load the round without the press, with the use of a small hammer,I search u tube and there's a guy on there loading a 308,and true enough it looks like it does what it say's, although if you search it like me you wont probably like the way he weighs the powder just fill the scoop and pour, Anyway I wanted to ask if anyone has tried one,if so how good are they, any info would be welcome good or bad, Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
They are very good and load some quality ammo, however my advice to you would be spend a little more and get the Lee hand press kit, some dies and a few bits and you are away, I used to load .22 hornet, and in my opinion these two items are vital for super accurate hornet ammo, the Lee universal case flare die, to gently flare the case neck before inserting flat based hornet bullets, and second, the Lee factory crimp die, to crimp the bullet in place and provide uniform starting pressure, those two items costing around £20 for both shrank my groups from around .75-1" to tiny little cloverleaf/ragged one hole groups, and the Sierra 45gn varminters are cheap and brilliant in the hornet, with lil gun or h110 behind them. 3175darren 1,100
Cheers I will get them I think, I just thought I would get a feel for theses sets,I only use a lee aniversary kit which I have had for a long time, and to be honest I fancy trying a hand press, Quote Link to post

andyf 144
My opinion only! The Hornet is too small and fragile for the Lee Loader. Yes it works, but you need a decent press and dies for the 'small stuff' even for hunting ammo. I use Lee equipment as well as the more 'exotic' stuff i.e. RCBS, and being an engineer I think I am in a reasonable place to know, Lee gear is perfectly good, my only reservation would be fine adjustment and first class repeatability for the ultra fussy or bench rest crowd. (that's not me). A Lee cast press is hard to beat! AndyF 1 Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
tight fisted git don't come crying when you have runout. Not with a hand press he wont, especially if he combines it with Lee collet dies. Quote Link to post

Oh yes he will, a hand press and the lee loader are not meant to produce consistant laods they are for range or field use when you run short. the hand press is better than the loader but a bench press is far better for consistant ammo, i have all three all Lee and all have their use..........sometimes!
