NEWKID 27,763
With the end if the river season almost upon us, I took fin onto the river culm to try and get him his first chub, and hopefully a few roach.. He's getting the hang of running a stick float through now, but these are tricky swims, most are like a bird cage with the trees, but the boy done good and landed a few fish.. Including a couple of chub and his first brownie, that impressed fin with its air display... Lol Edited March 9, 2014 by NEWKID 12 Quote Link to post

chrismdd 787
Geat going there, fishing the stick is one of the most enjoyable ways to fish and learn this sport properly. Beats waiting for an alarm on a carp puddle. Great weather as well. 1 Quote Link to post

NEWKID 27,763
Cheers all, I agree Chris, it's probably my favourite method, be caught some cracking fish over the years running a stick through, he's just getting the hang of running it through, holding it back etc, the under arm cast is coming but needs some practice.. Don't I know it Ant, he tells everyone we meet about the mullet lol, we'll be back on them in June, good sport on light gear up the river. Well I've heard of a few decent bass coming off a brag 10 miles or so away, last week, so we'll have to get down there... Quote Link to post

I got a feeling my little girl might stay in the country pursuits though, she's different to the other 2, When I was cleaning the shed out last week she spent the whole day cuddling a ferret, that went to sleep in her arms, her and a ferret on a deck chair in the garden.... Lol I've never lost the bug and been going since I was 6 so hopefully it's the same for them... 2 Quote Link to post

kenj 131
My dad taught me the finer points of stick float fishing and I taught my son, but the computer games got him and he was lost to fishing forever. He still comes just to watch me sometimes, but can't be tempted to have a go, even when they are crawling up the rod. I had a good session last week with the bread punch and stick float on my local river. In three hours, I had over 8lbs of mostly roach, with small chub, big gudgeon, and a couple each skimmers and rudd.
