keepitcovert 842
Classic examples of horrendous genetic engineering by so called experts of the canine world, descriptions of uses and working ability that belong in grimms fairy tales. Worst example for me was the alsatian, whoops sorry now called the german sheperd rear legs that looked like they belonged on a jack russell and front legs that looked 4inches longer,a great example of how to breed hip dysplasia into a dog, words fail me what i think about those twats that breed for greed. 4 Quote Link to post

Leeview 791
The whippet is one of the few breeds that hasn't been ruined by the showing brigade, mainly because many of the top breeders up until the ban were coursing, racing and showing the same animals. How long that will continue is open to question as the show dogs seem to be getting bigger, with slab sides and don't look like they could turn too well. Having said that most of the whippets at Crufts could still do what they were originally bred for to some extent. Not sure if that applies to the other running breeds - the winning saluki looked like it moved nicely to me but got no idea if it could graft or not. The dog in the pics is pure showbred and is a grandson of the first whippet to win Best In Show at Crufts. He's a very determined little rabbiter. I think you'll find the working whippets are getting bigger, the standard sizes are the same as they always were for showing. As for coursing and racing the rules stated they had to of been placed in the show ring to qualify to enter so they had to be under 201/2" for dogs 191/2" for bitches Y.I.S Leeview 1 Quote Link to post

I'm sure there are show dogs quite a bit bigger than 20.5 now. Are you sure coursing and racing dogs had to have been placed in the show ring? First I've heard of it, and I know of some top pre-ban coursing whippets who have been nowhere near a showring. Quote Link to post

Im sure the whippets had to of been placed in the ring to compete at Whippet Club Coursing events. Check out the whippet archives and see how many Laguna's,Shalfleet and Moonlake were show and coursing champions Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
