fox digger 1,086
tell him that you think you should be trusted because most of the lads my age round here are gone the wrong direction and are known to the police already for all of the wrong reasons, you have chosen to steer clear of the pier pressure to take drugs and be a nuisance. you choose to spend your spare time out in the country with your dog doing somthing you love instead of the street or pubs making a nuisance of yourself, the fact you havent heard anything bad about me yet shows im respectable and a suitable candidate to get a shotgun certificate!! sounds good anyway, as long as your not living on a mountain with no other lads your age about!!!! Confuesd as I think the interview went well??!!! Because you're a chap with good character, a stable home situation and you're keen to ensure everything is done by the book as you take up a new sport. If he probes further then as Pete123 said, ask him if there's anything in your file that would give rise to any notion that you can't be trusted. (I'm assuming all of the above are true but feel free to chop and change as you see fit). Good luck mate, I think he's just being extra tough as it's for them to prove you're not of good character to hold an SGC, not for you to prove your worth. Quote Link to post

Exactly the 1st thing I thought of (without the week). I'd have just put him on the spot. It's for them to show your unsuitable. They can't arbitrarily refuse you a licence because they think you can't be trusted without any good reason behind that such as convictions, health history etc. Provided you meet the requirements in terms of good character (reasons just given + you pass the MI5 checks etc.), are of the required age, and provided you've shown good reason in the case of a firearm, they have to grant you a licence.
