bullmastiff 615
Just rub it down and oil it! I don't think Walnut should of been varnished anyway!!! Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
Yeah a nice piece of walnut is art in itself. Maybe pissing in a font was a bad analogy. How about rubbing shit into a Mick Cawston original oil painting? Like everyone has said above, rub it down and oil it with walnut oil. Painting it makes it look shit but it's your gun. bill88 6
If its varnished/laquered,take it to a french polisher or antique restoration place. They'll probably have a dip, that'll strip it back to bare wood, should only cost a fiver at most.Get it home give it a rub with some wire wool, and a wipe with some meths, and leave to dry. Then get a very small amount of danish oil,and work it into the stock.Just keep building coats up.Oiled stocks, hide the knocks better, and are more weather proof.HTH's Bill Quote Link to post

I dont thinkits that bad an idea if you like it, its your gun at the end of the day. I did mine, turned out ok, just make sure you put on several coats of matt varnish once you've finished spraying. Good luck Quote Link to post

Tyla 3,179
thanks tyla was startin to think it was a bad idea but that looks rather good, i'll post a few pics when im done Nice one, i look forward to seeing it. Another tip s to cut out shapes in a plastc milk bottle and use them as templates, it breaks up the camo really well. Also always start wth the lghtest colour first and make sure each coat s dry before you start the next. Post some pics when your done. Quote Link to post
