Bsa Lightning Trigger Spring

Hi guys. I have been offerd a bsa lightning but all it needs is some new seals and a trigger spring. I have orderd all these. Im fine putting the seals on but its the trigger spring im struggling to find any info on how to replace from what the bloke has told me it has been taken out. And for a bsa for 40 quid i cant pass up the oppertunity. Any help guys will be very gratefull thanks.

year ago there was information about this on the bsa owners sight ,but I dont think it is possible to become a member ,I have tried twice . Others have also tried .when looking at the pictures on the site it looked a bit of a nightmare replacing the trigger mechanism , but having the trigger and its components with the pictures in front of you it might not be so bad . type bsa lightning trigger mechanism into google .

I am currently putting a new spring kit into my mates lightning and having some problem getting the piston out, do you know of a reason why it's stopping to the rear and going no further as the sear and trigger has already been removed.

You can't take the piston out because of the way the stupid scope rail's fitted through the cylinder. Badly built, poorly designed heaps of junk.

Thanks for the info Andy, looking at the diagram I had a horrible feeling i was going to have to knock out the sight rail, looks like worst fears confirmed.

 

By the way in my previous post it should have been the Air Rifle Shop (Wakefield) and not Air rifle company.

The scope rail is actually easy to remove.

I stood the cylinder up on the rear end and with a block of wood and hammer i knocked it down and it comes off.

Figured out how to put trigger together the first lightning sorted it and polished everything up put back together fired about 10 or pellets and wow i cant believe how nice and smooth it is to shoot started on the second one took piston out rang my gunsmith as i noticed that in the first lightning only had 1 piston weight and the second had four and wanderd why and turns out it more then likely was a 177 and some one put a 22 barrel so put the 177 barrel on that i got from john knibbs put it on cocking is very smooth. Only issue is the safety is very loose as in instead of a nice little click when engaging the safety or disengaging it. It just wobles about but also as that the sear spring may need replacing as it is a bit tempromental when cocking also if trigger aint in certain position it want cock but got a new sear and sear spring coming.

But when it did fire there was real harsh recoil so big smile on that but christ when it fires its a rather loud crack. But for the first time working on spring gun and tuning if i can call it that im rather pleased.

True, LH, but once they've been removed they don't seem to want to stay in place for very long after they've been re-fitted.

 

BSA (Gamo...) just didn't think this one through and coupled with their shoddy build quality just ment that what was already a flawed design was made even worse.

I did pretty much the same after removing the allen screw and used a small piece of wood on the rail to avoid metal on metal. After about 1/4" the rail just lifted off and bobs your uncle piston out. I'll let you know how it performs once cleaned up, greased and put together. I'll run it through a chronograph to see what poundage it's putting out. Definitely a stupid design with having the sight rail interfering with the removal though.

I totally agree pal it is the most useless design they could have come up with.

But on the up side when the piston came out and i polished it with wet and dry 400grit paper for the best part of 2-3 hours and a bloody good clean and polish of the cylinder and spring ect christ it was a huge transformation it was so smooth. Re greased with ptfe teflon grease and WOW. Smooth cocking very effortless a very slight nudge. And was doing 11.7ftlb with bisley long range gold.

Started the second one cocks lovely buy got to wait for a new safety circlip sear spring and trigger strut. O and now a new stock as when i was taking it out the stock it was a bit stubborn and through my heavy handidness i split the stock like a banana from the breech to the trigger luckily i was ordering a new one any way.
