Ocset 91
My main point is, these show dogs will work and work well. I agree my working pugadoodledoo is the bomb on Red stags As for Ridgebacks heavy culling would be needed to get the right type consistently imo I agree, although mine would've been culled due to his excessive size. Some of the fat barrel bodied stuff with the tiny snipey heads shouldn't be bred from. But there are decent proportioned dogs with the right temperament that could be used. 1 Quote Link to post

My friend had two; one was a monster of a dog and game as fuuck, with what can only be described as the head of a Tyrannosaur The other was leaner, faster healthier, better formed head and jaw and had balls to boot... he was a rescue (So technically no balls ) and had a serious hatred for anything with teeth. I also saw him catch a rabbit once.... Point is, I have really looked into this breed for years as I love them but I always try to do my homework and traveled around a few breeders saw examples from kennels I couldn't visit and frankly the stuff in the UK is shoite If I was going to get one it would be an import from Africa If I was going to x one into a lurcher line.... It would be an import from Africa Quote Link to post
bird 10,013
That dog is now dead. He was never a running dog. He was always heavyset, but he could move along at a decent pace and keep up with what he needed to. You'd never call him racey, he was always square but he lost all of that puppy fat he has In those photos. Those are the only two photos I have of him that I can share. Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
I'd have thought there would be better dogs to use out of the tin tbh I'd imagine it's been a fair few generations since any have been used For anything but showing or pets that guard a bit, what do you want to add by using them?size? Weight? Nice ridge down there back?nothing that you need in a running dog imho Incidentally I've seen a ridge back cross work, average bordering on slow Bull cross hands down if you need more strength, tenacity or balls 1 Quote Link to post
