Huan72 687
To be honest I don't know if hares are quicker now than 30 years ago................. but if the hares in an area were being hunted responsibly with time for raising young by those that ran away, the forces of natural selection would be in use, with the fastest, most agile hares surviving to breed. Predation of hares by natural predators would involve more stealth than speed so the test of ultimate speed would be a factor that man has pushed to the limit so in theory I could see it being a factor but the hunting would have to be a regular part of the hares life. If it was it would be no different than any other species "arms race" apart from the factor of the man breeding the dog 1 Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
I coursed my first Hares 40 years ago, and i admit we did not use Saluki crosses, but we still had some very good dogs, and it needed a good dog then to catch, seen a few that couldnt. regarding your terrier hanging on to a hare, I had a whippet x Bedlington Bitch 18 inches, who learned how to catch hares in the seat she was deadly at this, i ended up leashing her, when walking through fields that held them. didn't like to see them caught this way. 3 Quote Link to post

The reaper 12
A saluki is at its maximum evolved state were it's originally from it has developed a technique that allows it to out run any prey on the horizon!! Some by pace some by endurance some with both either way if you want to evolve a saluki anymore tie it to a f#ck!ng rocket or take them to a decent bit of running !! If your running paddocks use a pure greyhound or stop buying 50 quid shittas and part with some cash for the sport u so called love ! Quote Link to post

The reaper 12
Why would you want to use a full greyhond for paddocks reaper ? I've always found if I'm running short fields not real paddocks ie somewhere like crondoll Bentley Alton you need bursting pace the greyhound or first cross or3/4 greyhound if I'm in Clayton Colchester Cambridge Felixstowe then I like to put a straight saluki bitch to a well bred lurcher sum thing with pace with brains with gears to go up or down or endurance if mr right got up ! All pre ban obviously !! Quote Link to post
