Pellet Setting?

Good evening guys,

 

I was wondering whether or not any of you fellow shooters have ever "set" their pellets and if so did it make a difference. I was also wondering how to make one. Any advice will b useful.

Many target shooters use a tool to maintain consistency which involves placing the pellet in the breech then using this tool to make sure it is sat properly

oh right I see .

 

I just use my thumb and make sure its as far as it will go pressing quite hard. I get little rings round the edge of my thumb from the breech. in the cold this is quite annoying lol

A piece of plastic rod or you can now buy pre made pellet setters ..the lat thing you want is to damage the steel ....although personally I have never bothered ....on a springer the air will seat the pellet properly and drive the skirt out . You can argue this and that but for generations of UK airgunners its just been the use of a thumb thats all .

I use the same method as Skot, At least it will be consistent not sure it you can say the same if you bite your nails though.

I know competion shooters who used to use a ball bearing to seat their pellets . Pushed into the breech with a 5mm ball bearing ensured all pellets were seated in exactly the same depth for every shot . Just a process of elimination i guess , many differeing things to consider if u want each shot to be the same as the last
