beast 1,884
there are three main reasons that dogs eat their shit, and it is more common in puppies than adults 1. some sort of nutrients in the diet are lacking and the dog is trying to get them from eating other stuff 2. most types of tinned meat and dried feed contain additives which make them taste nice and smell nice, but these additives dont get digested in the dogs gut so the shit still smells and tastes nice to the dog 3. behavioural issues, boredom, stress, and other negative moods can cause a dog, especially a pup, to eat its filth as a coping mechanism of all the pups i have known which are healthy, well exercised, fed a meat-based diet, and spend a lot of time with their owners (not just left in a kennel all day) i have yet to see one eat its own shit as they are well-balanced and well fed. Casso 1,261
Dogs are attracted to items in their environment that hold a prey full essence , blood urine faeces both canine and domestic animals hold a special attraction for dogs, pups in particular rabbit sheep horse shit all hold a prey full appeal and ingestion is a form of contact or connection , unlike the shit of an animal like a fox which holds a predator essence but a connection is made by way of making bodily contact , I would guarantee that that if wolves inhabited these isles there shit too would be rolled in The pup will grow out of it once it gets out and figures out what real prey is , a lot of silly habits in pups are ironed out in time once they sort out in their own heads what they're all about 1 Quote Link to post

I have had and know of other pups that are well exercised and socialised, fed best of food with meat added and spend plenty time with owners eat shit and plenty of them! I think its real easy for a pup to start but also easy enough to stop it. If one pup sees another eat shit that one more often than not will also start to eat shit. Best way to stop it is keep them in shit free environment and they soon stop it. Quote Link to post
