banner man as was said before there is no comparison to the fens, have you ever stood in the middle of the fens ???, some irish dogs when they seen the fens they tried to get back in the van lol

no mucky paws iv never been in the fens and to be honest iv no desire to be, i get enough hunting local and if i want to test my dog i go to louth or cork big land and good hares, and if my dogs wasent able to catch a rabbit on the fens i wouldnt care because il not be going there
BM you just said you have to travel to cork and louth to test your dogs so are you saying the hares local to you are shite?,i hunt the biggest land in ireland week after week in cork but you cant compare the big land in cork to the fen its ridiculous if your dog gets a long race here he has a ditch or farm or gate to save him not going across the fen he only has his heart no heart and ask your mate welcome whats happens,i hunt on this big land with proper hare remember theres a coursing club in every parish round here so hares are well run and looked after but id have the fen over any land here jmho
It was not heart that let welcomes dog down just its lungs. So many people go on about the heart but if there's nothing in the tank your going no where imo

40 fegs a day ned smoked LOL. No seriously the hares always favourite in ireland.england the dogs favourite.
They might be hares but there two different animals. Its like saying a semlish hare will run the same as ones in round Dublin.Every land will test your dog and hares will change the way they run on the different land you run.

Was down with big Philip k and big paddy yesterday good old stories told some interesting ones as well enjoyed the crack and banter with him, proper old school hunter,I got few pictures of some of his

agree to some of what you say owen but when ye used to run the comp it was feburary, now as most men would say the big raba would be starting to go back, some of the irish dogs used to burn out after a couple of runs, what would of happened if these dogs were getting hard runs 2 or3 times aweek,if the land around Kildare was so good why did ye have to hold the comps in England.there must have been plenty of long ears around for ye to get your dogs ready.why spend a lot of money and time going to England to run, there must of been something good to keep bring ye back

I love ire its my home and I hunt it every week. There no question tommy and stephen have great land they diff test there dogs. But how many us are truthful and say there dogs tested week after week. I talk loads lads from cork and louth all winter apart from tommy or stephen most lads have good week and bad week 1 week might get 3 runs nxt week might get couple skites them dogs are gettin a rest in between hard week and there nxt hard week that might be 2 weeks. In eng them lads out twice a week there dogs will get 4 very hard runs going home sore tired be out 4 days later again. There's lads from cork on these site and all over ire go to eng they only go for 1 reason that better running. I've hunted all over ire for over 25 years but I still work my socks off go to eng as I thk its better and better test. But some lads can't go or don't wana go fair du them nothing wrong that. Just don't knock something till you try it.

that being the case no irish dog gets tested because no 1 in ireland runs the fens every weekend so the week that ye dont go yer dogs get a rest??? plus theres loads of hares in cork if you know where to look i lived and hunted in cork for years.

makattack iv have great hunting local ask gorger he used to travel 5 hours each way to hunt down with E.W and theres a good hare if they hunted at the right time of year not september, but in fairness there is better land in cork and plenty hares if you know where to go iv lived and hunted in cork for years, and i never compared ireland to the fens that would be foolish, what i said was louth or cork is a good test of a dog at right time of year am i wrong??? and to be fair there has been a lot of lads up at tommy and steven and the little irish hare proved 2 good for them

of course they getting tested to a limit, most times a course in Ireland lasts for less then 2mins,where in England it can go for a lot longer so theres more of a test on your dog,

i know what your saying mucky paws but if we looked at it like that what would the point in keeping dogs here in ireland?? unless your running the fens every week your dogs not fully tested, thats whats been said

I live in Ireland and course here but at the end of the day I have to make the best of what I have the same as yourself, but if I had a choice I know where my local hunting ground would be,

you might be hunting 25 years but how long are you hare hunting? and when was your first trip to england? makattack there has been a lot of these top dogs found out in louth they didnt put on the brakes but they didnt have the speed to control a hare thats a fact. so in my opinion if the dog not good enough for ireland than theres no point it being good in england onless your living there, bottom line is you need a dog for where your hunting simple as that.

In that case your limiting yourself to where you can run your dog.A hare dog should be able to hunt any where a hare is.
