P8 Moderator - Standard Vs Compact

Recommended Posts

Just ordered a P8 for my .223, I was presented with standard version or compact.

I've asked about performance between both and was given different info of two people....

1. The standard with provide you with better performance (less noise) than compact model.

2. You will not notice any different with .223 on either models, only on big calibre's.

I've ordered the compact from preference with length, but I'm now questioning info I was given, and if the standard will make much difference with reducing noise ?

Any info would be appreciated lads ?

I've always used the full length. I doubt it makes much difference to be honest, just personal preference. Mines got a bigger hole in as I use it on other calibres. I was out shooting with it on the .243 a while back and a mate was out with his .243 with the pred 8 compact and to my ears I couldn't hear any real difference

The difference isn't noticeable. You'd have to use a decibel meter to spot the difference (if any). Don't forget there is also a "Steyr" model that sits between the standard and compact lengthwise. Compacts are 210mm overall, full length are 300mm and I believe the steyr (that I have) is 260mm.

Think I'll stick with the compact one then mate, didn't know about steyr version.

Is £195 the going rate ?

That's about right. I think I paid £200. Good choice of mod IMO.

Don't forget you'll need to get the delrin piece at the back of the mod machined down to your barrel size. But you can use it without one while you're waiting.

First I've heard if this mate I'll ask place I've ordered it from, is it expensive ?Bloody wife will go mad she's not impressed after finding a recent receipt for cleaning equipment etc what I told her cost £10 whoops ?

It's the bit at the back of the mod that that barrel pushes through. I think it's called a bushing that fits snug to the barrel. Mine cost me £7.50 to have machined to the right diameter hole. You have to do this on T8 and P8 mods. Don't know about others though.

Spoke with Shop I've ordered it from and he sends the gun and mod to a bloke he knows who sorts it for £15

.223, .243, .308

First got this mod in FULL length for the .223 (you can see the original tube top right) then converted it after a while to the Compact, subsequently bought a Compact for the .243 and the .308.

I could not tell any difference to my simple ear on the .223, either Full or Compact P8 so I'm happy.

Its also fine on the .243, and I am more than happy with its performance on the .308 (its been on it about 6 years) but there is a suggestion the Full may have an edge when you get up to .308. It has done me fine on all the calibres though, and they are still near as good as the day I bought them, but I strip and clean every use!
