I find myself interested in my own reaction to this story lol A cane I can accept (hell I had it often enough) but I find a bit of sellotape over the gob more offensive :hmm: Weird huh? :icon_eek:

Exactly the same as me.......the cane as a punishment i can accept..........but having your mouth sellotaped is almost like being told to go stand in the corner with your pants down.....its degrading id rather my kid got a smack round the cannister than have the piss taken out of them.

Folk saying parents don't care, but then sayin it's okay for teachers to smack or belittle ythere loved ones is funny as fook. If you cared then your child wouldn't be naughty in school. If you really cared then anybody that done anything like this to your child would be not worthy of looking after your kids. My kids trust me implicitly, and so they should it's my job to protect and guide them through life. Would you guys find it a acceptable if your kids done this to a younger kid or pet???

I agree.....we supposedly live in a world where we want boys to " man up " a bit more............how many of you lads during school days would of rather had your mouth sellotaped than got the cane ?.....i know what id prefer.....the cane,slipper,punch........is punishment you know where you stand............having your mouth sellotaped is girlie bordering on an embarrassing humiliation that serves no purpose whatsoever......whats next stand in the corner and suck your thumb !!

You start showing CHILDREN that that is acceptable behaviour and I dare say you are gonna send mixed signals atleast. In my days it was acceptable to sort things out with your fists, even that gets you in a whole heap a shit these days. Discipline your own kids is one 1 thing, wether you use a smack or not. Would you Sellotape up a child's mouth you happend to be baby sitting? I know I wouldn't....

I would hazard a guess that this has been taken out of all context ... They were more than likely fukcing around wouldn't be quiet and wouldn't listen so she has tongue in cheek said something like right if you can't be quiet I will have to use the selotape and put a single piece across their lips ... I wouldn't have thought her primary goal was to humiliate the kids more than likely it was a way of diffusing an escalating noise problem ... The kids were in junior school and I would have thought they were cool being taped up rather than embarrassed .............

I just asked my junior school kids what they would do if a teacher sellotaped there mouth. My daughter said... She wouldn't she not allowed, and my lad a year older said, I'd go see head teacher an asked to be taken home to you or mum. I asked them why? And both replied, would you let somebody tape you up..... What can I add to that lol

See the parents in tears ffs. poor buggers! What ever failings they may have had as parents it must be gut wrenching to have your child try to do that to you. After years of sacrifices etc trying to do the best for them. Hopefully when she grows up a bit it will be something she looks back on and regrets being such a spoilt little twat

As for the cello tape thingy. To my kids I would show a united front with the teachers and bollock them for not being quiet when asked. Then also go into the school and kick up a fuss. That sort of thing may have been OK back in the day but in this day and age its not right. We have moved on in terms of what we know about psychology and controlling kids so the need to stand over a child surely should no longer be needed. Thats the theory anyway...lol

Funnily enough I remember the same thing happening to me and that was well after the cane etc was banned lol

I teach nowadays, after seeing the world in a few other jobs, and whilst I don't agree with what she did, I can see what would have driven her to do it.

A lot of kids nowadays are lacking somewhat in respect, and I know that sounds like some old line every generation spins out, but it's true. They can't be quiet when told, won't do what they are asked to do, don't give a rat's ass about the fact that they are disrupting other decent kids who want to learn, and their parents see us as some sort of babysitter who should put up with the crap their little darlings come out with. I've seen parents come into school & physically attack staff because their kids were given a detention for bad behaviour, as we apparently have 'no right' to keep them behind (we do, for up to an hour).

I'm surprised more teachers haven't lost it considering what we have to put up with (and no, the wages aren't great when we start, the vast majority of us are not hang-wringing wussy liberals, and yes, we do spend most of our evenings trying not to laugh at the rubbish we have to mark instead of being able to go out hunting!)

Hats off to you mate.

My wife was a teacher when we met, it was doing her head in for the reasons you mention so she threw in the towel, also a few ex girlfriends were as well. And it always shocked me what they had to put up with, without the right discipline structures or support from management to do anything about it.
