shropshire dan 467
He lambs inside. Ill give that a go. I'm going to take the 12G aswel as the HMR when I go just in case charlie comes in a little to close and quick for the hmr. Snaring defo isn't an option, ill bag some rabbits, pigeon etc and chuck it in a pile. How long should I continue this before setting up a ambush? Thanks Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
I'd make it so that the fox can't carry it off. Something we've used before, is to get a tub, fill it with the bloop and punch lots of holes in the top. . . . and then sinking it into the ground, so foxy is scratching at it. Lay a few bits about the top. . . monitor if its gone, once its been used set up your ambush. They should come back and have a good scratch. . . . . . probably at night though . . . . Cage traps? Born Hunter 17,798
So, no lamping, no snares, no dogs and currently no centerfire................... the farmer likes to challenge his foxers eh? Fieldcraft will make all the difference by the sounds of it, but I think the farmer is being a little ambitious expecting the foxes 'cleared' with such heavy restrictions. 1 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Can't use cage traps due to owners pet cats. I will defo try that buried bucket. Should keep them interested longer enough for a shot Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
True BH, I will be getting CF very soon. Spoke to feo and he said put in the variation end of march, he also said to ask for open ticket in a couple of months Edited March 4, 2014 by shropshire dan Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Your going to need a good amount of field craft. . . . and a fair dose of luck. I hope the farmer realises that while you may pick off the odd fox, with the restrictions in place, you are never going to solve his fox problem. . . . . Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
But to be fair how often are snares and cage traps effective? I've used a live catch trap before took 3 weeks to catch the fox. He dosnt mind me shooting them at night just prefers daytime if possible Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Snares are working 24/7. A properly set snare line can be lethal if the ground is right. Night shooting would be far better mate. Quote Link to post
slipper 116
When did you get the hmr dan? Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Will have a recce during the day, and then try lamping them. Get it monday Chris, put a deposit on it last night. Can't wait. Fired 100 rounds, comes with silencer, 150 rounds, new redfield scope, bipod and bag. Quote Link to post
slipper 116
Tidy but just a bit of advice make sure you do a bit of paper punching with it first before looking for charlie let us know how you get on pal good luck Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Taking it out Tuesday with 100 rounds on the targets, then again probably wednesday the lad is also giving me 200 remington hmr rounds. Which he said are not very good so ill blow all them into targets to get the feel of the setup, he uses hornady v-max, but bought the remington to test Quote Link to post
GEOFF.223 83
Youll get them first light in the morning no bother if ur calling is any good. Find the most dense hedging or forest nearest to were the lambs are being taken. 50 percent of the Foxes I get are usually coming from these places Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Thanks Geoff. My calling is preety good, I'm also taking a mp3 player and speakers and use as a digital fox pro. Ill try manual call first. Keeping ranges to 100-120 yard max with headshot. Ill load the 12G sbs with 42g no.3, had some success previously with this shottie and shell just in case they come in quick, close and if they sneak up Atb Dan Quote Link to post
