Gaz_1989 9,539
Not all ground we hunt is suitable for super fast Lurchers. .. I can appreciate that but a half cross collie grey is far from "super fast" so when do you think more than half collie is required? Your bitch is 5/8 collie 3/8 grey if I remember right? And I know a lot of the litter are doing well. Do you think that if she was a half collie instead of 5/8 she would be too fast? Or not robust enough? Or not clever enough? Just trying to see both sides of it. It's obviously dogs for jobs and dogs for different people. For some lads one of these collie saturated lurchers would need going over a pure sighthound to suit them and what they so. Quote Link to post
s.e.s.k.u 1,893
Im not saying you need more collie than half x...it's down to personal preference. Iv had a1/4 collie 3/4 grey and I'd say he was super fast and more suitable to running pre ban . Now it's just rabbits so the bitch iv got now suits what and how I hunt now. a half x would do same job ..but just so happened that this pup caught my eye and she done well so far.( as for the robustness. .she done her wrist last week jumping a ditch..gutted) 1 Quote Link to post

My pup had shoulder injury last year, give him all in all 12 weeks off, now he running ok catching well, sometimes proper rest+ right exercise can heal a injury . Quote Link to post

I certainly think if there is an abundance of rabbits, like in that particular video, it's going to make very little difference to the end bag regardless how quick your dog is or isn't. Night Walker 591
Would the reverse 3/4 be more likely to find and put up game in heavy cover than a half cross? That's one of the few reasons I would of thought they would excel over a half cross at doing Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
Personally, I wouldn't class a reverse three quarter bred a lurcher. Rather a hunting collie. A lot of fun to be had with a cur bred that way, but not a cross for someone looking for a dog that relies upon its pace to put game away Quote Link to post
