Phil Lloyd 10,738
London is the greatest capital city in Europe and up there with any in the world... Me, I love the place, from its history to its madness and everything in between, good and bad. That's just the thing though, its our capital city, fecking huge and sometimes very overbearing... I would love to spend a summer there, full time, soaking that hustle and bustle right up and see everything... Then home again for Autumn and back to my countryside. Same as you Bosun,.love the place.. I was reared on a quiet wee smallholding,.. along the Welsh Marches,... I did not attend school, until I was quite an age,.hence my early lack of socialisation,..which upon reflection, really does explain a lot about me Obviously, as a hunter, I love the quiet solitude of the wild places, the Moors, Dales, Fells and Fenlands,..but my heart will always be in the high Southern Downland, with its dark deciduous woodlands. However,..I learn't many years ago, that there is far more to life than chasing rabbits and messing around with ferrets and lurchers,..It is a big old world 'out there' and our allotted life span can be so short.... SO,..I've enjoyed following the Hippy Trail and loved the experience of simply wandering at will,. getting myself lost in some of the world's most exciting cities.. London is great for that, as is mystical Marrakech, ancient Istanbul, dangerous Kabul and so many other places, seemingly alien,.. to a country boy... Travel broadens the mind,..but there is no denying, it is nice to come home..
gnasher16 30,220
I had to drive up to London and back today ... To lewisham to be exact ... First part of the journey was great got to the hamersmith flyover in about an hour then the nightmare began ..... Nearly two fukcing hours to get across London and then the same back ... There are too many people too many cars taxis bikes fukc me wherever you look something is happening and everything moves at a snails pace ... Stop start stop start aaarrgghhhh ... I suppose if your brought up in the hustle and bustle of a city then its second nature to you ... I see three cars a week maybe go up my road and I'm more likely to get held up by horses cows or the odd tractor ... No no no city life is not for me .......... Ol ave a word !!!......whats this......one of Britains finest..........survivor of countless excursions at home and abroad behind enemy lines......a cool head even in the most extreme situations on land and shark infested waters.......................................................................................................................................cant cope with the Catford roundabout !!!!!............on a sunday

gnasher16 30,220
London has a way of turning the most liberal and easy going bloke into a racist psychopath with a tendency for homicidal road rage, I cant stand going there. In fact come to think of it when I'm not at work, were I have to socialise with people, I'm trying to get as far away from crowds as possible Like anything it depends what your used to........not everyone is fortunate enough to of been brought up in idylic countryside...........if a person is used to a slow paced peaceful life then they wont feel comfortable in a City......works both ways i suppose.......i spent a week alone in the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands a few years ago it was great for a week......but after a month id be bored out my skull !!! Country life hasnt turned a City boy like me into farmer giles why should city life turn a country boy into a racist psychopath......you either adapt or you dont if you dont like one or the other dont go there, simple. Born Hunter 17,783
Sometimes it's nice to just be amongst the hussle and diversity of a city, dunno why but spending the morning mooching about a city, get a coffe and watch 'city life' is as good a mental detox as a walk with the mutts in the peace and tranquility of a wild place...... It's something I find myself doing quite often tbh, not that I can be arsed to go out my way much. Edited March 2, 2014 by Born Hunter
