Tozer 385
My GF read this out to me this morning, it turns things into a very grey area, at what stage can you be convicted? Bloody ridiculous too. Quote Link to post
Tozer 385
RSPB quote "but we’ve always questioned the validity of those who appear to just go out and shoot birds for the pot, which is not allowed." WTF? Quote Link to post

Born Hunter 17,832
It'll make roost shooting very hard to justify! A seasonal tradition that has been part of our rural heritage for decades. It's okay to release reared birds to shoot but not okay to shoot a truly wild bird for the table? It's okay to shoot a wild deer for economic gain but not okay to shoot a rabbit for the pot? Our society is being sterilised!............. Ethically the most pure justification for hunting any animal is for food. 3 Quote Link to post

danw 1,748
Do people not understand the general licence, it gives us leave to shoot birds (no mamals are under the General licence) which are normally protected under certain circumstances and given certain criteria is met, since people have widely abused this then there is no wonder the powers that be wish to show their teeth. Lets be honest how many times do we see in the puffgun section "just nipped out for a pigeon for tea" this is and was always illegal its just we turn a blind eye well not anymore so we all have our selves to thank 1 Quote Link to post
Tozer 385
That is the joy in living. Taking a couple for the pot, I had no idea it is illegal. Most of the air rifle lads will be screwed. I agree with pest control, but it makes me sad seeing it all taken away piece by piece. Quote Link to post

Tozer 385
Sorry for the multi posts on one topic, but for 18 months I worked a wildlife trust, on the inside you see I earned naff all so being by the sea as well I caught a lot of the meat I needed; fish, rabbits and pigeon. It was a very nice lifestyle. The staff and volunteers were a bit anti shooting, but were very keen on the idea of taking a few for the pot. Less so wholesale killing. A few of them even took the excess off me for themselves, and we did a meal for 60 people using the rabbits I shot as a fundraiser for the trust. It is difficult but I would say the masses if they ignore the fanatics understand, I have met some nut jobs though Quote Link to post
