bird 9,969
went for a walk today with both dogs, walking down the lane and a bloke with young baby in pushchair , and young girl of about 8 years old walking with him. I seen him coming towards me, so called Buck back to me and put him on the lead, but left Bryn loose. Bryn very easy going and steady, and would be he nearly 7 years old., Bryn walked slowly towards this bloke+kids wagging his tail. The young girl went nuts started screaming +holding her dads hand , I stood there in shock, Bryn just stood still never moved any further .So just held his collar, I told the bloke dog was very friendly and wouldn't hurt them, he said the young girl was petrified of dogs. It had never had bad experience or anything from what he said, but his wife was scared of dogs, so prob the kid picked it up from its parents I think. He did say when 1st seen Buck coming down the lane they were very frightened , and that prob started the young girl off. But that's why I put Buck on the lead straight away I know he would scare most people with his size+power, but old Bryn very steady+calm. Ithought it was a real shame for a young child to be so frightened of a dog , Buck yes, but not a dog like Bryn, to have extreme fear like that got to be unnatural . keepitcovert 842
Strange but that type of fear can sometimes induce a lesser trained dog into an attack, people who show that type of fear do seem to get bitten more often.
bracken boy 584
Look really with all the press on attacks if ur not a dog owner and not really had dogs in your life can you really blame them because i cant, i do that same as bird i see someone coming my brindle goes on lead and my black dog gets called close JUST in case if a scaredy person loosing the plot, you know from a distance if they dont like dogs but yes what a shame that some are so scared. walshie 2,804
It's the parents that make the kids like that. If that little girl doesn't grow out of it, her kids will be like that too. With however many millions of dogs in the country, her life is going to be a misery.

RubyTex 1,957
I once had that walking Ruby on her own, she is fecking tiny and as soft as rags and as I got round the corner with her on a lead a little girl screamed and clung onto her mum as if the dog was some kind of monster. Apparently she just didn't like dogs but when I said "you can stroke her you know, she's alright" she started crying and screaming at her mum to pick her up! I could understand if they had been attacked or chased by a dog but to have a fear like that is just pure scare mongering from the parents turning their child into a quivering wreck when there's no need to be. Shame really.

Haha! My mrs is like that. Doesn't mind getting between 2 big dogs to separate them scrapping but panics when a little pigeon flies near her.

With however many millions of dogs in the country, her life is going to be a misery. It will be 100% the parents fault. The little girl will have witnessed her mum going into a melt down every time she sees a dog then thats the sort of behavior that she will learn.
Tiny 7 1,694
Yeah 99% its the parents that reacted the same way in front of their kids. I think the same is said for other fears such as spiders, lighting, thunder and so on its down to what they see round them. Either way. I try and keep away from public places and people at the best of times. But when i do I wack them on when I see more orless most people as I always think about my old dear hates dogs and panics when they run round her even to say hello. And cant fcking stand dogs running about parks knocking kids over licking there face, With some fat bird with a bum bags saying he'sjust saying hello (get fcked)....
