walshie 2,804
I want to buy a decent 1/2" drive socket set. I don't need all the bits you get in the multi-tool sets, just a ratchet, couple of extensions and 6 point sockets from 8-32mm ish. I've got a decent enough 1/4" and 3/8" set and I don't want to spend fortunes, but I don't wany rubbish either. Halfords is a no-no as when I bust a ratchet they wouldn't replace it under their "lifetime guarantee" as it is a moving part. Perhaps "tightening things" and "loosening things" isn't what it was designed for. Been looking at Facom, Teng and Britool. Any suggestions?
moxy 617
Teng is over priced and the plating does not last. Check out the gear wrench stuff. Similar spec as snap on with out the price tag. Bahco isn't bad gear neither.
moxy 617
Wera is good gear also

norseman 424
never had bother with draper expert, value for money. I still have my first set from 10years ago and its still like new. i think you can email them for exactly what you want instead of a whole set.

My dads got my draper set from when I left school in 1991 lol I bought another one years ago, worked on landys and my vw transporter with it. Also got 2 small draper or stanley sets for working on bikes or car interiors and they were cheap from lidls . I think draper was underrated and ideal for car enthusiasts ,I don't know what the modern sets are like for quality.

Wxm 1,638
Beta is also a good make
norseman 424
the newer ones are better again, nice soft fancy grips and easy to dismantle if anything goes wrong with the ratchet (not that ive ever known any problems with them) mines get some abuse, pulling hauling and swing like feck off them. dropped from heights ect and still the finish is like new

dytkos 17,820
Bahco and Draper expert are good, Bahco being more expensive.Unless your gonna use it a lot, just get a cheapo one from your local weekend market etc and stop being a fanny about it Cheers, D.
fox digger 1,086
snap on top range, blue point more or less on a par with snap on, bacho is decent but i would pick teng as a very good all round value for money set, draper expert are ok but there ratchets dont hold a candle to teng ratchets. you get what you pay for i suppose. go with KING TONY...... aka knuckle busters!! clipo 871
Get a cheap one as you will only lose the sockets you use the most
Chid 6,603
koken tools as good as any snap on or other major tool supplier, not a clue if there still as cheap as they used to be though if you dont need a realy top quality one go for something like a sealy set or failing that get on the bay and buy 2nd hand
