Average Wait Times For Land Checks In Your Area ?

Recommended Posts

Well I've now potentially lost another permission due to waiting for land checks, with the land being in Nottinghamshire and not south Yorkshire, I've been getting passed to and from departments for last few month, I received a call from Nottinghamshire yesterday and they can't get out to check land for another two weeks due to sickness issues within the department.

How do you all get on with land checks ? and land checks in different area's ?

The lady I spoke to more or less said the land is not suitable over the phone by looking at Google maps, looking at the acres only, it's a small field (approx. 11 acres) but it's on a large hill with massive backdrop at the end of field so similar to using a high seat, I'm looking at rabbit control with the .22RF.

The FEO said she's going to meet me at the land in 2 weeks so hopefully the land owner doesn't think I'm full off $$%$.

Absolute bullsh*t!

You can shoot safely on 1 acre nearly flat field if you backstop it correctly.

What do they think happens when professional pest controllers shoot foxes in back gardens? Most back gardens are the size of a postage stamp - less than 30 foot square!

It's all about backstops, awareness of potential dangers, planning shots and taking care.

11 Acres is a very reasonable size.

Talk to the BASC.

Totally agree mate and I'm going to see what the FEO says when we visit then get in touch with BASC.

The FEO for South Yorkshire was brilliant and was very thorough on previous land checks and looked at backstops etc, this is first dealing with Nottighamshire though.

Cheers mate ?

I have a shared 8 acre small holding cleared for .22lr and .17hmr. Very good bit of land its more productive than some of my 300acre+ permissions ;)

The wife always tells me it's not all about the size lol

The land is packed with rabbits I use to control with air rifle, it was my first ever permission so I would be gutted if land doesn't get past, I personally can't see any reason why not but I'll have to wait and see ?

Hopefully I'll not be waiting four month mate or the permission will be gone, seen a few threads praising North Yorkshire and you would of thought they would of passed it straight over save to long wait.

Would love an open ticket but think I'll be pushing my luck requesting this early on.

You can have land passed retrospectively, that is shoot it whilst you wait for them to come and look. I would send my cert in to them with a letter requesting it be opened due to the fact you are losing shooting through them not being able to respond to land checks in a reasonable time. Tell them that you are being disadvantaged by having this restriction on your cert and that by opening it, it will not affect public safety.

Thanks for advice mate I was going to write to request after a year anyway but didn't want to push my luck but suppose can't do any harm.

Will I need to pay if the request is granted ?
