as it says who do you use for your talpex traps? ive been useing a very very good copy for years but now they have gone up to £7.50 a trap so i may as well buy the real deal

Personally, if I was a Talpex user (I'm not), I think I'd go for the Talpa trap from Magnum. The springs seem just as strong and they are easier to set with the loops on the handles. I know a couple of molecatchers that have used the Talpas exclusively for a few years and they seem to last well.

John Underwoods in Stratford do them. A friend has some from them and reckons they're really good. I (being an avid user of tunnel traps) can't vouch for them as I myself don't use Talpex (type) traps a lot. I have 1 genuine Talpex but the scissor traps I favour are the Fenn Scissor Traps, available direct from DB Springs. My mate reckons these traps from John Underwoods are better quality than they used to be and better than some others you can find. He said he paid £2 each for them with free postage (as he bought a few) but I've seen them on Ebay for £9.99 for 4 + £4.99 postage.

There are quality issues with them that,s a fact, and its a shame I use tunnels mostly but they are very good in sandy soil,I bought some off e,bay I think they were pest stop ones and they were good,however I bought some cheap ones off e bay to try also, some time after as I had a job on sand soil where I expected them getting knicked, after a thread on here where a guy was swearing they were spot on, the cheap ones were no where near as good,crap in fact and I experimented with the two different ones,I will always go to some one like the flatpack company now,I think matt the Ratt put me on to them, there gear is quality they do claw traps too have a look mate,Don't get me wrong there will be Others out there that stock good gear, but buy a sample first then commit when you are happy they are right for you,

As I said before these are genuine ones - proper stamp of the trigger plate and correct packaging. In fact I've have just bought some more:-

I also use Flatpack barrel traps too as I like to use a mixture of the both sytle traps depending on where I am setting in the field, soil conditions etc

ive got a few real talpex ones (about 20) and about 30 copies that i can buy local but the local copys are bloody good if not better than the real macoy.... but i need a extra 30/50 more but the copys i buy cost more than the real thing....hence my asking

 

i run about tunnel traps as well as a few dozen random traps from full barrel to fenn loop traps.. but have just picked up more farms and need to up my trap numbers

My traps spend most of their life underground, and if I had to replace them too often it would cost me dear.

 

Horses for courses peeps If you traps spend most of their time in a bucket, then there's nowt wrong with watching the pennies. If you work them hard, then prepare to spend out for good quality kit

ive got bethal and flat pack traps....the talpex copies cost more than the real thing...and i think their as good if not better! £7.50 a shot it adds up

 

i see countless lads buying traps for 2/3 quid a go but its just false economy as like you say their shagged in a mole catchers month

I cant remember who it was, going on about how the cheap traps were as good as the proper ones, it was a fair lengthy discussion at the time, so me being me, thought give the guy a chance and I bought five I then matched them to the Talpex type I have, setting both in the same soil types,and varying that from peat to sand to fine soil and so on,and the Talpex p****ed all over them, out catching them time and again,
