scarecrow243 24
Daihatsu terios 1300 cc excellent on fuel and good 4wd check underneath as certain years can be rusty
GEOFF.223 83
Was thinking a quad myself but then there the prob of getting it to and from shooting area. Could drive it but then u need to register it tax it m.o.t it insure it. And the you have something with litte storage room not as comfortable as jeep colder and of course u will get wet if it rains. In my opinion only mine so no one take offence the best simplest option keep car and get jeep aswell, get something like a old vitara or jimny for say 800 to1000 insure it 300ish for me. Same price as a half decent quad. Depends how much ur insurance is to make this worth your while. Would love a quad my self but as it rains so much here and its cold I think if some nite I fancied going for a lamp about I would be like feck that its to wet or cold to cruise about in that weather on the quad. Nothing with 4x4 will be good on fuel simple and as straight as that im afraid. Some 2.5/3.0 diesel jeep are as good on fuel as 1.3/1.6 petrol mini jeeps Edited March 5, 2014 by GEOFF.
MR TEA POT 1,287
I had a vitara for years, cracking little cars, ideal for a bit of off-roading with some nice chunky tyres Only down side not good on fuel on long jounrys, not very comfortable and not much boot space but for a ferreting shooting car cracking little motor cheap to repair as well. jack-percival 25
Used to do a lot of off-roading, the suzuki sj's, vitaras and jimnys went much further than any of the lawn rovers (land rovers) I ever owned as there much lighter, the land rovers I owned were all diesel though so much cheaper to run than the petrol vitaras, which to be honest for a 1.6 petrol drink fuel, so if your only going in the odd field etc I'd say stump up for a land rover, if your not wanting to get stuck and not doing huge miles get the suzuki, u will be very surprised at where a suzuki can get even with standard road tyres on This was one of my off-roadersjs
Jonathan Daly 2
My sj was ok on fuel but wouldnt drive it as a every day car

shootlodge 146
There only one 4x4 that there all named after ....... ' Jeep ', the crd models are good on diesel for a 4x4 & they have most under-estimated 4x4 in the Uk, there comfort, economy,4x4 ability are superb . There are others , that look like 4x4's some are alternatives, that either don't last, or some are unreliable junk ! Nissan xtrail is a surprising contender , the defender /discovery ok if ya handy with a welder & tool box. I prefer to sit & go !! buy right 1st time & cry only once, buy wrong & cry many times hahahaha
Sweeney 316
I myself bought a jimny end of last year, was driving a 1.4 astra before but mrs kept moaning about it getting covered in mud so decided to get another happened to be the jimny. And what can I say....mint !! Never done off roading but my mates do and I took it out, pissed through everything ! And we were going down some right boggy lanes up rock faces the lot, I also use it for getting about the city and I think it's sound on fuel. Unless your on motorway, over 60-70 mph and it burns fuel like nobody's business but I don't do motorway miles so to me....it's the perfect motor, wouldn't even swap it for a defender. I took the seats out and laid some mdf down with some carpet on top for the dogs. I couldn't recommend anymore highly mate
