bobcullen79 1,495
Hey all. Well after finishing my court and trying to introduce all my jills, in prep for spending the summer with a vas`d hob. Things arent going to plan. The albinos are fighting the poleys, and just when you think its calmed down, another fight will break out, naturally theres been a fair bit of skunking/scenting/spraying whatever you call it. So when a fight kicks off, I`m straight in there splitting them up, when I picked up a albino and noticed she had what looked like a prolapsed anus! Not good! I also noticed the musty smell.... Putting the jill back down to observe her movements, she looked fine, watched her for a few minutes and picked her up again to find it had all gone back in again!?? Putting 2 and 2 together, I now know how the spraying thing works... I knew the stench came from their rear end, but I had no idea how. Weird thing is, it seems to be the dominant albino jill doing all the arse kicking and the spraying 1 Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,061
Are you saying the ferret prolapse's when it makes the alarm smell,,,, and you now believe all ferrets do this? I can't say as I have ever took that much notice when they let the stink off,,,,I would be surprised if that is actually what's happening ,,, 1 Quote Link to post
Nick3439 83
I thought they were separate glands; and they just released the smell through it; and did not require it to turn itself inside out.. 1 Quote Link to post

bobcullen79 1,495
b*****d! My edit timed out or was cut short... Basically, why would I disregard what my own eyes have seen and take someones word, who by their own admission "hasnt taken much notice".. I just had a little look about for some hard evidence, but sadly I couldnt find any pictures, However I had a quick read through the sac removal proceedure, and the the sac has a retractal muscle, so therefore I believe the anal sac can be protruded or retracted.. GSkye 94
I thought they were separate glands; and they just released the smell through it; and did not require it to turn itself inside out.. My sentiments exactly. I always thought it was in the tail (amongst other areas) that release the scent. Quote Link to post
foresterj 1,096
The "scent" gland as far as I remember are located in pretty much the same place as a dogs anal glands , this is what they are basically, anal glands.Other scent releasing glands are sebaceous glands in the skin. 2 Quote Link to post
