Ideation 8,216
Once again, been very slack and havn't bothered writing anything up for weeks, or taking any photos. . . But had an enjoyable day out today, where, for a change. . . . it didn't rain! JB and I met up with a friend for the morn and checked out some new land, then did a bit on another place. Had a good day, but had five digs to nests, which slowed things right down, and I don;t think we'll be at it with the ferrets for that many more weeks . . . . Ferrets worked well as always, and the dogs had some great catches. Not the biggest bag, but took the majority in two hours, and spent the rest of the day checking ground and digging holes That's the way it goes sometimes Thoroughly enjoyable as always though! 9 Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,292
Looks a good day Jai similar to ours yesterday, spent half the time digging got a right result at the last bury, popped two jills in ,nothing....knocker box out, spade at the ready....then out comes a bunny, with THREE ferrets behind it yep...got an extra hob (plus collar ) heard of it happening to others, but its a first for me :thumbs:ATB Dave 3 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Bloody hell that's good going matey! I only ever lose collars lol. Nice hob? Yer, we spent the first four hours trying to find rabbits on land we'd been asked to do as it was 'over run'. . . . . . I think someone is seeing things! Need to check with the lamp. And spent the last three hours digging. So only had about two of actual ferreting! The highlight of the day was when one of my jills went awol, trundled off up the hedge, unbeknown to me or J.B. Anyway, all of a sudden a rabbit flies off through the hedge further a long, followed by two more. The dogs who were hovering over the set we were doing, flew off through the cover, smashing through hedges, caught a rabbit a piece after some great running and cover work! So two bonus bunnys 1 Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,292
It had a bit of a hissy fit when I first grabbed it,fat as a pig and obviously been dining well soon calmed down though...think its been living rough for some time looking at it,and the batteries were flat in the collar gave him to a bloke I ferret with occasionally,he will get it used to captivity again and then try him next season,if he works well, its quite fortuitous as the fellas old hob died a while back,It will be in clover either way This was first time on new perm for us,by the time we found it (crap directions)we only managed a few hours, got 8,saw plenty of young uns ,but we will do a return trip shortly.....done really well for permission this year, picked up 3 new farms totalling about 1100 acres, same story at these ,either people not turning up and losing the permission or making a nuisance of themselves with guns/problems with livestock Only downside to the day...losing a boot in 18 inches of mud/cow shit, then whilst trying to pull said boot out losing my balance and sinking my bootless foot into the same mud/shit and spending the day squelching round once the boot was recovered all in all a cracking day 1 Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Yes mate, she has come on very well indeed. I was just commenting to JB earlier that there has been a marked difference in her the last couple of trips, much calmer and more settled. She is lethal around cover as well, very little escapes her. I'm starting to quite like her to be fair 2 Quote Link to post
