Outlaw Pete 2,224
Pete you still convinced its a thrush mate??? Clips; I played it, over the phone, to my boss. It gives that " Sip a Sip a Sip a Sip a Sip " call, three times. He states: " That's a Song Thrush, bud. " Now; This is a guy who's constantly in demand from people who want to pay a shit load of money, to the very best there is, to do work with birds for them. National Institutions. Government Depts. That sort of thing. Frankly? Having seen, first hand, what he's capable of? If he takes one listen to that and states it's a song thrush? Then I'd be fascinated to hear anyone elses ideas to the contrary. Unfortunately, as said; They will mimic and pick up sounds from their environment. So, no two may sound quite alike. Making it an absolute f**ker to pin down. But, I've applied the age old laws of birding to it. Fireman's telling us it's not a finch ~ I think He'd know! It sure as hell isn't any bunting either. Nor any of the hundreds of other birds we needn't even concern ourselves with. Like Mallard, White Tailed Eagle and Gannet. If you don't feel ye can trust my boss on this? That's fine. All else I can suggest would be that you stake the spot out and get an eyeball on the bird physically and visibly producing that specific call

Outlaw Pete 2,224
It's almost beyond doubt a thrush. But, personally? I'd have to go and spot the damn thing. That's the way I am Chasing a bird call got me living proof of goshawks breeding in Co. Leitrim. Something they still say, to this day, doesn't occur. 'They' being men of the wise and learned, living hundreds of miles away. Who don't walk these fields and don't have the trust and confidence of people born and raised here. So, yeah. I'm big on eyeballing shit. If I could afford the constant stream of taxi fares, I'd now spend the summer going out to that huge plantation and finding the nest. Surely you can find a song thrush?

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Well, I'll be f**ked! I have shit loads of Great Tits around me, all year round. I have Never noticed that call! I know I can't hear a lot of bird sounds now. Yet, I can hear these recordings ~ birds I can't hear in nature, I can't hear on tape either. Nope. No disputing it: Those two match perfectly. It's a GT alright. I'll now have to pour scorn and derision on my boss, for letting the side down so woefully. And perhaps suggest he too get a f**king hearing aid! (In fairness to the guy though; He was listening to it down a phone. Tonight, I have my own hearing aid in and the call sounds quite different to me. Dunno) Now, I'm really confused. Why don't I hear that here? Why didn't I pick it up on the site? How come, phone or not, my boss didn't get it?! I was about to mail him anyway. I send in my weekly reports tonight. You, meanwhile? :clapper: F**king fantastic work! Despite my dropping a huge red herring, ye've got ye arse out there and done the work! Well done! This is how it is with me. They say Gos' don't breed here. I get out there and f**king well see they do! Feels great to crack something, doesn't it?
