F**k me, Clipo. I'm afraid that's a bit of a needle in a haystack one :(

Suburban Derby, this time of year? Okay. Fair bet to say ye can count sea birds out then.

What sort of habitat were they in? Did they sound to be calling from cover? Or a high point?

Was it a sweet sound? Or harsh? Did it seem to come from a small bird, or something bigger?

See? Break it down .....

 Sorry about that! Never can resist it.

Fact is, mate; There's a shit load of birds out there. Shit load of sites providing whole ranges of individual birds calls and songs. Before you start stabbing, wildly, at any number of possibilities? Eliminate the less likely.

Golden eagle? Doubtful. Didn't sound like " Quack! " ? Most ducks can be discounted then. And so on. You'll still end up with an amazing raft of possibilities, of course.

But, you do the primary donkey work and at least try to present us with a more 'viable' proposition? I reckon we'll enjoy working with ye.

This, of course, assuming you'll have the vaguest True recollection of what ye were hearing, come tomorrow :(

Oh, Kar Ist!!! That's doing my f**king head in now!!! I Know that f**king call! (Where the hell's JD when ye need him? He'd be good on this)

:good: F**k it! I don't give up! Rang my boss and played it to him. I Knew it had to be a permanently resident bird. I knew it wasn't a tit, finch, bunting. I ignored Thrushes as they sing. Wasn't Dunnock or Robin. I was in deep trouble!

Boss had it straight away! He can't be 100% as the f**kers mimic all sorts of sounds (I never knew that!) But, his money's on SONG THRUSH!!! :clapper:

Resident bird. Never goes away. Common enough to be plausible. Nests early, so could be calling now. Fits the environment ye hearing it in. And I'm f**ked if I can think of anything else!!!

What ye reckon? Look out for any thrushes around there! ;)

That bird's Singing, mate. Your one's Calling. World of difference.

But, listening to that buggers repertoire, can ye not 'see' how divergent it is?

Here ye go; Listen to as many Song Thrush songs as ye like. See how they compare to that birds one, on ye film.

Then realise that your own bird is Calling. Not Singing. Try picking out the calls on that site too. See what ye think about all those sounds.

Then, if ye head hasn't melted? Do what I did: Follow my own advice, as above, and discard anything silly ~ like a Whooper swan. Use ye own knowledge of birds to tick off what's not going to be in the country. What it's patently Not going to be. And listen to the remaining possibilities.

Now, where is JD .....?
