the_stig 6,614
Jigs; Half barrel's good thinking. But; It'll want to snag on and butt up against every root and stone, mate. Tarp' would retain the natural fluidity of the carcass, see? It'd flow more naturally. Washing over the terrain, more than bumping and catching on it. And, while, I fully admit, this is just keyboard bound considering ~ the idea came to me as I remembered trying to drag a large carcass, cross country myself. I'd say it should be worth a go. Canvas tarp' is incredibly strong and resilient stuff. It'd be easier carried out there, rolled up and slung across ye lads broad, young shoulders. A sheet less than six foot square would be more than ample, and weigh nothing much. Got to be better than trundling around with a blue beetle in tow? And think of how half a blue barrel would sound, each time it touched an object, during the stalk. Not trying to insist on my notion, mate. But, having dragged shit myself? It's what I'd go with, next time. would an ex mod strecther do the job ?

unlacedgecko 1,466
Make a strap out of an old bit of seat belt and a couple of hooks and sling the things over your shoulder. The MOD ponchos/emergency stretchers are not good for dragging. They rip very easily.
duggy 142
pete, after reading your post,i have to admit, you are right, the blue beetle would be getting stuck at the butt end.im going to look in to geting some.duggy,i hope to be out again soon, might leave the dog at home now as the tiny kids are about and you can be sure the mutt will take the first he reaches, couldnt watch a little kid getting hammered. I'll keep my eye open for the next thread mate Good luck

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Would an ex mod strecther do the job ? Stigly; My only experience of " MOD Stretchers " has been in looking down on one, in a govt. surplus shop. Years ago. They're cheap as chips. (If they did double ones, I'd buy one for the Dogs and I to sleep on!) But; They're also full of wood and bits of metal. Completely extraneous to Jig's purpose. I mean; His lad and him are hardly intending to Medevac these stinking carcasses off the hill, are they? There'll be no nearby ambulance. Buy one for the cheap canvass? Wrong shape. Buy two and stitch the canvasses together? Hellish hard work. And I'm not at all sure about the strength of canvass used anyway. I wouldn't. No. Those stretchers were made for two men to carry a combat fit weighted man a relatively short distance. They wouldn't have factored in dragging the poor sod, across country, when they put out the tender for the canvas. Tarpaulin

jigsaw 11,875
mickey,as good as it looks, theres no way in hell you could even move that an inch up there.it would be stuck before you get a foot moving. as for the light canvas, well that would be shredded in seconds with bits of trees and rock points and snags at every square metre. I think tarpaulin is the answer,i know a crowd that do lorry covers,if the price is right then Im going to experiment and see how it goes.
danw 1,748
If your only talking of up to 45kg then I'd be sticking it in a roe sack lots easier than dragging
