wont go far wrong with a rapid, go down the second hand route as there as cheap as chips and you will lose a fortune as soon as you leave the shop

+1 for the Rapid

Including the reasons Paul has already put. But they can be fettled in the right hands. Reducing the noise of the action and making them incredibly consistent.

Plus a good shot count.

with the rapid what should I be looking for as I know nowt about em and how much should I be paying for a good one because the ones I have seen second hand don't seem that cheap and for less money I could get a s510 brand new, don't really fancy a r10 as I don't think the quality is there with bsa, so looks like it's between the rapid or air arms,

with regards sound moderators for fac air rifles do you use ones say for rim fires or are the non proofed ones ok

There is very little variance with sound mods on air rifles running at FAC levels. Obviously you want a fairly good one but it doesn't need to be anything special or listed on your ticket. Other than unknown.

FAC rapids are two a penny and reasonably cheap. You are looking for something that's not been tinkered with. So a factory set FAC. Not one that's been home done. Unless it's from someone with a good name.

I understand people's perception of FAC air and as laird rake commented above as a lot of others do. But I use mine regularly for work where a rimfire isn't allowed or the tool for the job. There are some benefits.

right ok well I put down for a .22 precharged air rifle with sound moderator on my variation .

I know what you mean there are a few areas on my permissions where shooting my rim fire is not allowed and you can't really shoot crows and the like out of tree tops and I know I will get plenty of use out of it .

I like the idea of the adjustable power as with the air arms for shooting round buildings just tweak the power down and a quick re zero , not sure how this works in practice wonder if anyone on here has one and how well does it work in the field?

Already have moxy, stunning wood work and beautiful to own also in .22 @ 30ftlb it's a brilliant tool and fantastic on quarry especially bunny skulls and the Brest bone on Corvids !

I am in no dispute mate. I'm sure it's a nice tool indeed

But your always going to get opinions and a brand that we each favour.

As for budgets and the devaluing in converting a sub12 to FAC. Plus the cost of the upgrade a daystate would be my last choice. No matter how nice the woodwork.

I have had a look ont web! £1000 plus for a used daystate. Plus the conversion costs to devalue is just mental.

As good as claims maybe. No FAC air rifle is worth over a grand. Most would be sweating at half that.

I just got an air ranger for £550, 2 years old mint condition , A conversion is about £200 !

i sold an fac Rapid in .20 with divers bottle. mod.scope. bag and 200 pellets for 350 quid the same as i purchased it for. no way will you even get your money back when or if you decide to sell it

get your self a rapid mate youll pik one up for 400 -500 mk2 n get about the same when selling theres loads of people doing aftermarket parts such as kev g phil if your gunna spend 600 on a 12fpe then another 200 getting it to fac your then gunna lose 400 seling as fac also another think over the daystate to the rapid there that easy to work on yourself so any sevice ou can do yourself instead of sending off for 150 quid a time
