I have experimented and you can not pick up MK1 collars with a Mk3 receiver to get any kind of consistent or reliable signal but it will work the other way round. You can pick up Mk3 collar with a Mk1 receiver box but it does not give the same kind of clicking and the depth reading on the wheel will not be anywhere near accurate.
