Cleaning Rod Advise

Recommended Posts

Looking at getting a one piece rod next week, spotted a Park Hale for £19.99 or a Tetra for £35.99 can anyone recommend either, or any other brands ?

Also the Parker hale rod is for .22 / .243, this might seem a stupid question, but will it be ok for my .22 Rimfire + .223 Centrefire ?

When I was at shooting range gent was using a bore guide to insert the rod, can't seem to find one online, what's best place to pick one up for a Tikka .223 ?

Thanks in advance

Hi

The Parker Hale 'grey' sleeved rod fits the .22/.243 and the calibre specific brushes, mops & jags have a matching thread, (and yes it'll do your .223 as well).

The next size up is 'yellow' sleeved (.270 308 etc) and the thread is bigger, and so are all the mops etc.

Bore guides can be got from Midway UK, but your 22RF will need a gun make specific bolt replacing guide, however you can get (I've got one) a universal

centrefire boreguide by 'Stoney Point' (or whatever they call themselves now) that fits all calibre centrefire bolt guns as the bit that engages in the back of the

chamber is tapered and quite thin and 'bendy' so goes into the back of the chamber and seals off the gunk.

22LR doesn't have a chamber larger than the rifled bore so the guide cannot enter the chamber but just butts up against the face of the breach, the bore guides are

normally round hard white nylon machined tubes, and as long as you have a CZ Sako Ruger etc they are freely available.
