baw 4,360
We live in a society where we have gradually had our responsibilites taken from us by the state, it's fostered a 21stC mentallity of zero responsibility and accountability. It's a bigger problem than simply dogs killing kids in our own homes. Half of the country can't maintain their own health never mind that of a completely dependant infant. Give the people back their responsibilites and see their attitudes change.... So...... Instead of these thickos having dogs killing there kids, you'd like to see them and similar allowed guns etc? Scary thought.
Tiercel 6,986
I personally wouldn't have kids near dogs. Both areas unpredictable as the other. Half these dogs that's killed kids could easily kill the owners nevermimd the kids so I see gnashers point. What is the attraction with them? It's the same attraction that people on here have to post on how many rabbits/others their bull x, slauki, coursing dog has caught. They think the dog rubbs off on them. Big numbers / big prey = great hunter. Big dog = big person. Deluded the lot of them. TC I think your spot on there mate. It always fascinated me how much respect is given to a guy who has supposedly a good lurcher. All of a sudden all the wannabes start name dropping they've been in their company to gain credibility as if it means anything we all like seeing a good dog work, I won't start kissing the owners boots though as if it makes them any better than anyone else. Megalomania by proxy. Quite common I am led to believe. TC
forest of dean redneck 11,598
of course it can. I doubt it will have a fatal result though. Obviously thats just speculation, especially with such a big dog, but it will surely radically reduce the chances of the child being killed. A bunch of stitches down the side of the face is much better than death granted............personally i wouldnt risk either but then like i say i never saw the attraction in watching kids/dogs grow up side by side.......im not saying you or anyone else is wrong by the way....just not for me thats all Because having a dog can be a pleasurable experience for a child growing up, I had dogs before kids and I'm not going to wait til their twenty something and I'm decrepit and can't enjoy walking one before I get another. It's just basic common sense if the dogs got a dodgy temperment man up and solve the problem, either by rehoming it to someone suitable or pts. And never leave dog alone with kids. If I need to go to the lav or cook etc then i will put them in the garden, and I'm talking about a Lhasa apso and a half grown chinuahua . gnasher16 30,118
It is harsh I know but you cant possibly legislate every freak occurrence to try and stop stupidity. Accidents can and do happen and will continue to do so even in this PC, health and safety, red taped country. IMO it makes it worse, no one has any common sense any more If it wasnt kids that are on the recieving end id tend to agree.............but kids cant protect themself from these accidents can they. I couldnt live like that....cant go for a piss without putting the dogs in the garden first sod that.....while you are obviously a responsible dog owner its unrealistic to think many people are like that because they just arent.....even people who claim to be responsible owners. Tiercel 6,986
The local romour is that the dog suffocated the baby by lying on it. Begs the question of how long was the dog alone with the child? TC

Gnash, when you have a dog there are a lot of things that go out the window, things that you would find unacceptable, yet to most dog owners are just par for the course. I was brought up always having a dog in the house and the dog went with me where ever I went. I could not contemplate living without a dog in the house, even if it's just the wife's pot licker. You have to have rules and as long as the kids and dogs understand the rules there is no problem. TC
Outlaw Pete 2,224
I draw the line at letting them sleep in bed with us and the rest of the shit some idiot owners allow. No. Sorry. F**k off! I am Not a f**king idiot. Find your way into my home at night and you'll be in for a rare old time. Because two of my Dogs will be in or on my bed with me. Not locked up in some kennel, fifty yards away, waiting for you to come and steal them anyway. They're with me for a very good reason too. You'd find them very interesting and distracting. Just before you hear the sound of me ratching one into the chamber. No f**king idiots in this house, mate.

With over ten million dogs in the u.k and many if those kept in houses with kids ....we've still not had a non-muppets dog kill a child......

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Born of necessity, originally, Scot. Living in unheated places with no electricity? Dogs body temp' is a couple degrees C higher than ours. Be like chucking a hot water bottle on the floor and laying there, shivering. Fine principle. But, all that shit can go right out the window when ye teeth are chattering.
