Its_grim_up_norf 577
A dog is a dog. I draw the line at letting them sleep in bed with us and the rest of the shit some idiot owners allow. (For example the dog having free roam of any house, let alone one with a new born in it) but a dog is a dog, and should be treat as such. They don't NEED to be kennelled. But to be allowed to get around and get into any room it wants is just stupid. Also, when mine was new born and up until around a year, when she slept through the day she was in the room with us in her Moses basket. Wether we were up in bed or not we'd bring the basket down. Not everyone is like that but it made my missis happy to be able to keep an eye on her, and we all know if the other half is happy, we are happy. I think the fact that a 6 day old was able to be attacked by a dog gives a measure of the people. A dog that size shouldn't even be in the same room as the baby in my opinion.
Nik_B 3,790
I bought a stair gate for the dinning room so we can stick him in there. He was doing my head in when people would come to visit. He'd get really excited and every guest had their legs properly thrashed by his tail wagging (amazing how strong a labs tail is lol). If other people's kids come round he goes in the dinning room and the kids aren't allowed to play with him unsupervised. There's very little chance he'd bite a child but he's a very strong dog and there's always the chance of an accident or him getting over excited.

bracken boy 584
Dogs dont have to be in run, kennels ffs all is needed is a brain , reliable wife, brother, son, all reading the right script, havnt got a problem with dogs being in kennel if guests are coming but i enjoy my dogs being as close to me as possible. Loony owners means crazy bored dogs and thats where the problems start.
bird 9,969
When is this going to stopwhen people stop treating feckin dogs like humans, and keep them in runs+kennels , and by doing so it would stop babys+kids been killed or have there faces ripped to pieces , humans in houses, dogs outside that in a nutshell . but people wont so kids will still be killed. and any breed of dog can kill a baby -kid . When are you going to stop going ON and ON....about how dogs MUST be kept outside?... Its STUPID c**t OWNERS.... Whether the dogs inside or outside.... isnt going to change the fact that the OWNER'S A STUPID CNUT. well lets put it this way, dogs in kennel+run which is locked up or should be1st , 2nd any kids that get bite then got to go into run with dogs TRUE well if its locked up by the owner, kids don't get in simple as that .! now that makes a lot of sence to me . iwas brought up with lots of dogs as a kid , my old man had all our dogs locked up like above, come from large family mom+dad had enough to do bringing up kids , never mind dogs roaming loose on the place, my old man would loose them out in garden only when he was there, so never any accidents with dogs or kids, and with the above that's why .But people will keep dogs in houses ,and its there choice there house, kids, dogs and choice is what its all about right or wrong
Huan72 687
Its really simple, don't leave a dog, any dog alone with a baby. Just like any one of us who is an easy going bloke can be in a sh*t mood and snap at people, so can the friendly family pet. Don't take the chance, ever.
delswal 3,819
When is this going to stop when dog owners realise NO DOG should be left unsupervised with small children
Brewman 1,192
I think we are still missing the point, there are a lot of stupid people who are also dosed upto the hilt with blind arrogance. No matter how many children die the amount of uneducated* morons who refuse to believe that their beloved furry monster would hurt their children doesn't decrease. You know the type: 'My jrt thinks he's a rottweiler", "that growl is him only saying hello", "he doesn't do as he's told he's only a teenager in dog years but it's ok" blah blah fcuking blah. Unfortunately people like that are numerous and they have large dogs which is beyond belief, we've all seen them and trying to tell them otherwise well just try pissing in the wind it just doesn't happen. Uneducated* = dickheads who don't know that dogs descended from wolves.
beast 1,884
by a strange coincidence we were talking about dogs at work today, and one of the girls was saying how her neighbour is trying to rehome a malemute. i commented that i would never let one of them near my house, and several of them which i have come across have been aggressive, intractable, unpredicatable. i even knew one which shared its basket with a westie for 5 years, then one day turned round and not only killed it, but ate half of it too!!! at this point one of the other girls turned round and said 2oh your wrong, my mums malemute is great with my two year old, she climbs all over it!" well they say ignorance is bliss and for my work colleague i guess thats true, but the parents of that poor little baby arent blissful in their fecking ignorance are they? ignorance is no excuse, throw away the key. i dont get emotional very often, but this has really upset me and made me very angry, especially with the other poor babe the other day, was that not enough to warn them? arcticgun 4,548
its an awful thing that has happened, but at the end of the day you cannot legislate for stupidity, I see exactly where Bird is coming from, and he is right until people see dogs as dogs and not humans , this sort of thing will keep happening, we should train our kids as much as we train our dogs, they need to be aware of the dangers posed by what we often see as our best mate

clipo 871
imo its when a baby crys that a dog changes around them.....a dogs instinct is to "prey" on vunerable and weak animals and unfortunatly they dont come more like that than a little baby..... its the same thing as calling foxes....you squeal like an animal in distress and charlie cant help him self but to investigate an easy meal....we all know that but unfortunatly your average dog owner dont and leave big powerful dogs with new born babys in the hope it will just be like it is with them and the results are a dog reverting to its basic instinct and a dead baby gotta say i agree with bird....you might get away with it with certain breeds like whippets etc but with big powerful breeds like a malamute why risk it??? a kenneled dog will be just as happy in a kennel as long as its walked and fed routinely everday so cant see the problem myself.... either way this a tragic story and the parents must be feeling terrible over the mistake they made.....RIP little one Edited February 18, 2014 by clipo
arcticgun 4,548
Id wager most of these dogs are ill socialised, get no attention, nor will the owner have any real form of control over the dog, its a grim picture for sure
