all depends what you need it for.

if you dont want a laptop then go to your local computer shop, not currys or any of the big name shops.

go to the smaller shops and i bet they can build you one perfect for what you need mate, and for that kind of money you can get a very very high spec computer.

as for your printer go for an epson there the best and the ink is alot cheaper.

hope this helps

dont buy a laptop unless you really need it, when they break you know about it, very expensive to repair as can custom builds,

like w.h said it all depends what you need it for,

you can get some good package deals if you shop around, stay well away from pc world, im sure there still beieng investagited for conning people.

buying a package deal can work out better for warranty reasons, with custom builds you hardly get one so if anything goes wrong out comes the cheuqe book, currys/dixons arn't really that bad,

:hmm: PC World, Currys and Dixon are ~ if I'm not mistaken, all of the same umbrella group. Saying that; I wouldn't go near PC World myself again after a rather :censored: experience I had with them some years ago. Ended up with me lining half the floor staff and their manager up and screaming in their faces, demanding to know if they were all complete and abject c***s! If I'd had my way; I'd as soon of lined them up and shot the b*stards.

Dixons I've always found to be fine. I favour them, as far as chain stores go.

Regards make - and I've had a few: Don't touch Dell. Period. Or, go ahead, if ye want to. Someone's bound to tell ye they're the Dogs. Suit yeself. Only don't blame me when it all ends in tears.

Personally, I think Packard Bell are the utter Dogs these days. I'm on one now and have been for years. Same one. 'EasyNote' Lap Top. Bottom of their range and a little belter. I imagine their desk tops must be cracking too?

But here's the rub: Mickey Sucks. After almost a decade of Billy Boy's nannying shit and interferance, I've simply had a complete gut full. That's why I'm just about to put this little thing into moth balls and buy a Mac'. For considerably less than what ye have available there mate, ye could get the whole shebang from Mac'. Say goodbye to virii. Being told what to do. Constant " Security Updates " ('For ye own good', of course ) Bit like leaving that god forsaken shit hole of a country you're in and gaining a bit of freedom.

Not saying do as I do. But that's what I'm doing ;)

Do you really need the screen and printer?

Support the little man and get one built to your specification and price range from your local computer shop. I dont think my PC even has a name. And apart from running out of memory space due to too many photos, and having to have a bigger whatsitsname fitted to cope ive never had any probs with my PC :good:

MOLL.

Get yourself an Apple mate. I got my first one nearly four years ago and ZERO problems ever since. They make Windows machines look like over complicated unreliable crocks which of course they are.

Go for any of the Imacs or Macbooks............... SUPERB !

The only software you'll need is Iwork 08 (better than Office and fully compatible) £50'ish !
