Andrew Beirne 78
Well today was a real hard day for the five terriers and the three of us ...a very intensive sheep farmer rang one of the men I dig with to do their yearly trip to his farm before he lets the lambs out to give ye an idea of the scale he farms about 300 acres he has 350 ewes lambed and 400 left to go ...so we got there at half seven met the farmer and set off I had my two jack russels there was two black patts a young bitch and a well experienced dog and a choclate patt in his second season ... the first set was very nice small place so we decided to enter my bitch for her second go and within a few minutes of her entering we heard her baying got a mark of about a metre so left her work it for awhile and started to dig after 15 mins we broke through to her baying nicely at a vixen...moved on from there and checked another one with the young patt bitch a dug out rabbit set and had a dig of again around a metre she was very hard maybe a little too much but fox number two after about an hour and a half ... then into a big rangey place and the choclate patt was entered and a big dig of four metres to a mange riddled fox and a happy terrier..on to another rangey place and we entered my dog he found very fast this time but we got a mark of 3 metres so broke through to him after working his fox well.... again onto a dig enough set entered my bitch again and had a dig of two metres to her baying away at a dog fox ... then another big rangey place we entered the well experienced black patt we dug an easy 1metre to him with a dead fox..we entered the young patt bitch again and she wasnt in very long and a dog fox bolted and he was shot..then we only had one place left so again we entered my dog and he found his quarry good and fast again and we got a mark of 2 metres so within a half hour he was up and a vixen was shot ...so we ended on at foxes and a very happy farmer..I was delighted with the way my two worked and the men I go with were happy with there terriers its such a brilliant feeling opening up to your own dog doing what he was bred for Im sorry about no pictures but after having two dogs robbed that I hadnt even posted pictures of up here im not willing to post anymore pictures of the dogs up here 2 Quote Link to post

foy 15
What is the ground like ? It must be like sand doing that in the one day the time the dog settles and you get your mark .it is hard to do diggs like that befor it's dark if it is good ground. 1 Quote Link to post
